      Spinning Technique?

Hey last night I became lucid and started to spin, but once I started I got caught up in the movement and couldn't stop. It felt like I had too much momentum and I sort of forgot what my intention was as I was spinning.

Can anyone lay out for me the basics on how to spin in order to stabilize a lucid dream? Or, better yet, can someone give me their best method on how to initially stabilize the dream once you first realize you are dreaming?

      Thanks
      ~CK

      Well...

The usual first thing I do when the dream starts to fade is spin and rub my hands simultaneously.

THAT IS WHAT I USED TO DO

Now (after reading some guides on dream stabilization a couple weeks ago) I stimulate all 5 senses first chance I get. Last night I had my first LD in about 2 weeks and the very first thing I did- I licked the brick wall. Tasted like dirt/gravel/sand/salt all put together. Thank god for the salt, and the dream immediately became VERY VERY vivid. It was like, vivvidier (is that a word? ) than real life. You should try it, taste is rather a funny one to stimulate.

You could also look at your hands and focus on the details, or feel things. Try summoning a cane to walk around with so you can constantly touch it and what-not. Idk, poke things with it too.

Hope this helps, hope you have a stable LD experience!

EDIT: HAHA I just saw one of your dream signs was Jim Carrey. I think he's one of mine too. I was Jim Carrey than became 3rd person as I watched him hug my wife O.o weird stuff.

I have tried spinning with mixed success. I find that it is effective in the middle of a dream, when you have already been stable but that stability is starting to collapse. In this situation, I have enough lucidity to maintain focus through a complicated action like spinning. But at the very beginning of a lucid, it can be hard to remember and disorienting.

Lately, my preferred stabilization at the beginning of a lucid is just to look at my hands. It's simple and you can do it quickly. The important part is to understand what is really does for me. Seeing my hands helps me to connect with my dream body. I realize that I have a presence in the dream. I have a body. I have a will. I can make choices. I am fully present in the dream and don't have to worry about my physical body. Hopefully, these are the ideas that you associate with looking at your hands and that's the key to stabilizing the lucid.

Often that's just the start. It's a primer to give me just enough clarity to make sense of the situation. Next, I will usually do something more to improve my lucidity and connection with the dream world. Touching objects and shouting affirmations ("Increase stability now!") have worked for me.
I am sure about illusion. I am not so sure about reality.
