How many Reality Checks do YOU do?

      Hi everyone,

I was wondering how many reality checks does everyone do?
And what exactly do you do and think?

Before, I had tried for over a year to get a LD, only to fail.

Then I talked to someone, and they were stressing to me the importance of RC.

So then I took their advice, and within a week, I had my first Lucid Dream.

I became sick one day (something else) and stopped doing RC's. I had no more lucid dreams for a while.

Then I started RCs again. I'm having a lot of small Lucid dreams now. lol
But before my first LD, I did RCs like MAD.

Okay so I wake up at 6:30 to go to school.

I glance at my clock and remember the time. I say to myself, "I need to practice reality checks because this could be a dream right now. Is this a dream?"

I glance at the clock three times. And then I say, "I need to do reality checks because my dream world and my reality looks the same. I could be confused easily."

I glance around the room. I ask, "Is there anything wrong?"
*What's that black spot in the corner?
      *Just mold.
*How did that pencil get there?
      *I put that there yesterday

I poke my hand with my finger and do it several times.

      I then say, "I'm awake."

I also say, "If this was a lucid dream, my finger would have went through my hand, and the time would have changed. If this was a lucid dream, I would..."

And due to the fact that my thoughts are private I'm not going to share it.
But I imagine what I would do, and what or who I would imagine around the corner. etc.

And during each class period. At the height of my lucid dreamings, (when I had the longest, and first dream) I did a lot of Rc's.

I used the clock, and looked away and looked back.

I do about 5 reality checks each hour. And I'm sure I did a lot more than that...

I tried even reality checking during PE, by examinning my environment.

      Anyways,

I need to learn new techniques.

spining hands I heard was good

those sound like excellent RCs... keep at it 8)

it doesn't sound like you need new techniques, as much as to continue doing them like you have been. the longer you stay with it, the more you'll start doing them while dreaming.

you say you are having alot of small lucid dreams now. how do you become lucid in them? if it is because you start to suspect you are dreaming, and do a RC that confirms you are dreaming, then the RC's are working.

if this is the case, you need to work on prolonging you LDs once you realize you're dreaming.

Thanks Asher! Literetly, You are the Best to me. I've had many lucid dreams by learning your techniques of questioning my surroundings.

Well maybe it's not working? :S
      It's really weird.
      this is what happenned

All of a sudden. A clock just popped out of frickin no where. And I thought, "I'll do a reality check." I cover the digital watch, look at it, it changed to weird symbols lol, and I say "I'm dreaming! I'm lucid! " And I do that like 5 more times to show myself that I'm dreaming. (which I feel really stupid thinking back on it) But then I wanted to go find this person, but then my dream ended around there. :S

Alot of my dreams are so strange to me!!! I JUST DO REALITY CHECKS AUTOMATICALLY! It's weird.

Another time, 1/20/06, "I looked at my watch knowing it was going to change. I keep repeating it like 3 or 4 times, and just watching it change. "

sorry everyone. I'm just acting crazy. I don't understand it.

I need to practice my dream recalling.

I don't understand why I do stupid things like that lol! what a waste

i do the same thing. whenever i look at some text and realize that im dreaming i just keep on looking back at that text watching in amazement as it changes. im partly amazed on the way that it changes and partly that something so real could be a dream.

ive had 2 lucid dreams but never done any reality checks.
the first time was wen i dreamt i was at school. In the dream i thought how could this be because its the holidays. The teacher said we were called to come into school but i was unconvinced. i came up with the conclusion i was in a dream ..soon after it ended.

I'm going to start RCing everyday. I really want to get into lucid dreaming. I can DILD, but that's about it. For some reason, I can identify a dream as a dream without an RC. Something about it just "feels" like a dream.

I think I do about 2 per hour. But sometimes I just forget when I am doing something <=/

RCs are really essential. You don't even really have to do an RC in a dream, some times just thinking about it is enough to see you are dreaming ^_^

Whenever I try RC's in a dream, they always fail. I don't know why. I really do question reality when I do them, rather than just do them mechanically. But when I do them in dreams (which I do quite often anymore) they always tell me that I am awake. Even if I do them in lucid dreams.

Now my focus is more on questioning reality and trying to tell if I'm awake or dreaming without the aid of predesigned RC's. For example, I look around to see if anything is out of place, and ask myself what I was just doing and how I got here. I try to keep in mind constantly the idea that this could all be a dream, and then try to answer the question as best as I can. And I don't stop until the question is fully answered, even if it means closing my eyes as a last resort (which would wake me up or change the scene if I were dreaming). I realize these things are RC's in a way, but I don't focus on "doing a reality check" as much as on actually trying to see if I'm dreaming or not.

I have more lucid dreams if I can keep in mind the whole day that I may be in a dream at any time. I have begun to train my mind to think of a dream as the first explanation for something out of the ordinary, rather than the last. Even if I see an old friend, my first thought now is "I wonder if I'm dreaming" because 9 times out of 10 when I see an old friend I am dreaming.

Since this thread has been necromanced. Little more than 10, each one lasts around 40 minutes or so. Though Yesterday I pulled off a 4 or so hours one. Need to get back in the 24/7 RCs <.<

Sure why not, you just have to get accustomed to doing it, then it will become second nature.

@OP that's insane. I hardly do any RC's. (Probably around 5/day) However I do try and make sure I'm aware every once and awhile. That seems to do a pretty good job of getting me lucid.
