      Losing Lucidity?

Is losing lucidity common without waking up? I had my second lucid dream last night (My first being about 5 seconds long ) and I had a fair amount of control for a while, but I guess I lost it along the way. Can I fix this by doing the whole senses thing, like licking and feeling stuff first?

I have lost lucidity without waking, its like 50/50 for me. Have you tried rubbing your hands together? or if its fading away, spinning? These might help you out.

Yes, it's not uncommon to lose lucidity eventually. Sometimes you just become too caught up in what you're doing, even if it feels like you have full control. Becoming too involved or excited can make you lose lucidity.

We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

You have to keep your mind..... organized? situated? Dunno how to properly phrase the idea. But if you are lucid you need to keep your head about you pay attention to what is going, what you are doing, and what you want to do you have to be in the moment. If you start getting sidetracked or your mind starts wandering that is a very good cause of you being semi lucid I.E. still performing dream abilities and what not, but not really being in control.

It also helps to frequently stabilize your dream if you know what I am talking about.

Thanks guys! I tried spinning the other night, that just woke me up... I'll try stabilizing and rubbing my hands together next time, I guess.

Spinning also doesn't really help unless you do it nice and slowly; it's done basically to take in the details of what's around you, thus making your mind work to create more parts of the dream. It helps you stay grounded in the dream. Rubbing your hands together is a better idea, though, if you still find yourself waking up after spinning slowly.

Did the dream continue as a normal dream? Or did you just wake up hours later with no memory of what happened?

The dream just continued as a normal dream, I couldn't control it after a period of flying around and whatnot.

I had this happen to me a few times. The first thing I did was steal a car, but I forgot I was dreaming because I was too busy crashing into stuff. I think the key is to keep your mind focused on the idea that you are dreaming the whole time, even when you're doing something really fun. If your dreams still continue as a normal dreams though, I don't see how stabilization would keep you lucid. Everything would be more vivid and less likely to fall apart, but you could still forget that you're dreaming couldn't you?
