I don't feel fully in control of my LD's

I'll try to keep this short..

I recently experienced my first lucid dream on accident.. it happened when I realized I couldn't run, and I fell down laughing and shouted in my dream, "I'm dreaming!" .. I don't remember much after that, so I assume that I woke up briefly.

I'm not exactly sure how I became aware that I was dreaming for my second lucid dream, but once I was, I was able to run, fly, and make things appear when I wanted them.

      ***

My third and most recent lucid dream made me realize how unpracticed I am in controlling the events within my dreams. Although I was aware that I was asleep, I had difficulty in making things go my way. I told myself that I wanted a specific object to appear in a specific place, but it did not happen. (I don't know if this is even something that I should be able to do: can anybody provide insight?)

In the two most recent dreams, I felt like my sub-conscious mind still controlled about half of my dream, and like I was only consciously in control of the other half. I would like to know if more control will come with more practice, or if there is something I should do to make my lucid dreams more "obedient" to my wishes.

Also, in the last two dreams, I had to escape capture/death. I knew that I had the choice to change the dreams, but I had fun fighting my pursuers (both were Harry Potter related :]).

***There was another dream that I remember being lucid in, but I think I woke myself up. I remember that it was another dream involving a life-or death situation, and it was too stressful and frightening to remain in. Are my violent "half-lucid" dreams something to worry about?

I have varying levels of control in my lucids. Technically your control is completely based on your belief that it will happen. Until you can get yourself to completely believe in your self (as corny as it sounds) you will never have complete controls. There are short cuts and tricks you can use though that you can find on this site.

I completely understand your situation, and feel your pain. Until my most recent lucids, I had the exact same problem. So I'll tell you what helped me, and I hope that it will have the same results for you. I found that when I was lucid, I wanted to do everything; my mind just couldn't think of one thing and settle on it! So, after a while of thinking, I decided that instead of just go, go, going, I would sit down in my dream and think carefully. While you're sitting, make sure you look closely at everything, smell everything, taste everything. Just feel the dream, and tell yourself that you are dreaming over and over. Slowly ease into the process of doing things. Start by changing colours of walls/objects. Make some food appear. Try flying. And then after you feel very much in control, proceed to complete your dream goals. I hope that you can figure this out, the key is to really know for a surety that you are dreaming, and keep on reminding yourself that you can do anything that you want. I apologize for the bad English!
      Best of luck,
      Asmodean

Well, I'll go ahead and repeat what's been said thousands of times in here:

Lucidity has little to do with control. Lucidity is simply knowing you're dreaming while you're dreaming... dream control doesn't necessarily go along with it. Being lucid means you can largely control your own actions, but not the entire dream scenario. Control is a whole different matter and as someone already said, there's a lot written in here about it.

Congratulations on your first few lucids!! And good luck on your continuing adventures and efforts at control!! Hope I get the hang of it too some day.

Well reading alot of stories and techniques online has actually screwed my view on LD. I've been LD since I was like 5. This actually happened to me on Wednesday night, I usually like zombie/raptor outbreaks cause it's fun running away with friends and then fighting back. But lately the zombies have gotten really fast and I'm like I'm dreaming, HD vision, Clarification, Only those I choose to die will die, but it didn't let me control anything.

The way I usually control my dreams is rubbing my hands then anything infront of me I push with a force like Starwars then I know I'm in control then I usually summon creatures to have my back so no1 would hit me from behind which I'm trying to erase cause that's how I usually get out of dreams. I haven't been on here in a while and forgot the terms but Yosma is right. Believe in yourself in that you can conquer and control whatever you want.

Always have something to do, spin around and picture a place then you know you're in control. I might be going in over my head but watching youtube vids of movies, scenes, and people help me out before I sleep.

I have often experienced loss of control even if I have had total controll in some dreams before. For me the amount of controll varies from dream to dream, but it surely helps to focus on that this is your dream. It's in your mind, and therefore you are the one that have all controll.

Something I've realized is that if you try too hard and are demanding for something specific, your brain will fight you. It isn't about controlling every detail. For me, I have the best results when I become lucid if I go along with what my dreams throws at me. You have to keep an open mind if you want a really mind blowing experience. For instance, if you are dreaming about being in water and you are trying to fly you're missing the point. Try breathing underwater and exploring the scene you already have and amazing things will fall before your eyes. Sometimes your mind fights you with what you want because there's another direction your subconscious is intending you to go. Your mind if a beautiful creator, you have to trust it.
My best lucid dreams are when I come up with new things to do with the dream I'm in...not going into a dream with a specific plan or goal. See if that helps.

so no left-brain thinking for short

avoid these while trying to lucid dream

      THE LEFT BRAIN

      • uses logic
      • is detail oriented
      • facts rule
      • focuses on words and language
      • timelines, like present and past
      • maths and science
      • knowing or trying to know
      • ordering/pattern perception
      • knows objects name
      • is reality based
      • forms strategies
      • is practical
      dream goals:
[ ] - sail with the Black Perl to Hoghwarths and show my magic wand to Hermione aaarrrrrrrrr
[ ] - turn into Chuck Norris, kick Justin Bieber into a large pit, while shouting "shut the f*ck uuuuuuuuuupppp"
[ ] - meet the Sasquatch and ask him to pick my stocks, then crash the economy
[ ] - find my virginity to avoid the piranhas on the escalator and get probed by aliens

I find this helpful too, Like this morning I just went along with the dream even though I didn't like the setting yet it lasted much longer, probably 15-20 minutes and I did control many things. Subconscious is always playing tricks on you in your dreams because it knows who you hate, what you envy, what you really want, etc.

Weird, don't most LDers say to use logic to stay in the dream? Like what is 2+2 and etc. To stay in my dream I usually cuss my subconscious out to let me stay LOL!

she says, never try, just be

when you ask wtf am I, how can I do this and that, then you go into left brain and imagination and 3d vision is right brain

and she says she`s a natural at LD, she was like this since a child

I can tell you from other domains, that you are allways better off going with the naturals, even if their stuff just doesn`t make sense at the beginning

that lesson took me 8 years to learn, you want to avoid that

aw thank you I see what you are saying too, however about the left brain but I do believe that they can interact. It truly is a personal journey with dreams. For everyone it is a different battle. I truly experienced that when I try to control every detail, I wake up. When I stop and look around, taking in the awe of the art surrounding me, my dreams not only last longer but I am left with an amazing experience. One amazing lucid dream I was able to stop and look around for what felt like an hour. It was CRAZY how real everything looked. I was thinking exactly how I do when I'm awake so I could really take in everything. Rubbing my hands together, touching my hair, talking to my friend Andy who just appeared when I thought about love......you have to learn to love your personal dreams and get excited when you fall asleep with what your mind will show you

      ALSO, VERY IMPORTANT:

Your ability to control your dreams is immediately affected by your state in the real world....at least in my experience but many others have backed me up.
1.) When you are stressed, your subconscious will mess with you. Control will be very difficult and dreams can be frustrating.
2.) When you are upset or depressed, you will either have bad dreams or dreams about what you want in life at the time (which suck because they always leave me waking up feeling empty that it wasn't real)
3.) When you are happy, content, relaxed, etc....your dreams will take you to the stars and creativity is at its peak

Was just asking, cause I'm a natural too but now that I'm reading all the info on the forum it's really changing my dreams and how I control things. Maybe naturals should avoid some sections or there should be a section for naturals

well like I said, everyone is different. dreams are very personal as well as finding your own lucid dreaming / dream-controlling patterns. We're all different. To be honest I have little desire to control my dreams since my favorites are ones that I just go with. I'll be lucid but I don't disturb the plot of the dream. I feel those are the dreams that reveal your deepest inner workings. Did you lucid dream as a child too? I still remember mind childhood lucid dreams, they're so innocent and undisturbed by stress that they were my most meaningful.
