I had a lucid dream last night which im so happy because i havent had one in like a year or something. However, the lucid dream was not intense, like i had wished. First of all, when i was trying to fly, it felt awkward and difficult. I managed to fly forward a bit which was kinda cool but it didnt feel thrilling. It felt like I was half doing it and half imagining it. Also I was in a store where there was a lot of samples and I decided I could eat a lot of them without looking stupid or gluttonous but it didnt reach my mind that I could change the surroundings and make like a room with a table full of delicious food. Lastly, in the end of my dream I tried to fly through a glass door and break through, but I was unable to, and then my lucidity faded after that.
Despite these dissapointments it was still exciting to know i was dreamingm, and my surroundings did seem real. For example I decided to practice making prolonged eye contact with random people which in real life i would not be able to do. I stared at their eyes and it seemed like real life, the lighting was exactly like that in the store, the clarity, the people, and their eyes looked normal. However in some parts of the dream there are of course less vividness and a feeling that you are in and out of consciousness, or in a partially dreamless state, and partially conscious, hard to stabilize any dream with substance because everything seems abstract as one scene ends or something.

So it there any way I can unleash my power of reason and be able to have full control over the dream and do EXACTLY what I wish? Anyone have any tips?

To improve the clarity of my dream, in a dream I bend down and look at the ground. I tap it to hear what it sounds like. I focus all of senses doing similar things. I think better contol comes with practice. Good Luck!

One thing that I find helpful is to take in my surroundings or observe the details of my dream, usually mine are really vivid, life like I guess one would say, but when they're not you just focus on the little things like say if you're on the beach, look at every grain of sand beneath you, grab it and just sift it through your hands [that'll certainly help make it more vivid].

As for more control, sometimes it not the issue of doubting yourself that restricts you from full control but actually forgetting that you have full control or not knowing what to do because you know you have just that much control [which is one of my major issues in a LD myself so you're not alone]. It takes practice, but I'm sure that you can overcome this issue.

And for the akwardness of flying, it will disappear once you've mastered it or done it enough so that you don't have to really think of how it feels to fly, you'll just feel it fully and natraully and enjoy the whole experience, if that makes any sense at all

In almost every lucid I have had since I first heard of this technique I tell myself outloud to "Increase lucidity now!!" It sounds funny and even in the dream it feels weird but it has worked wonders for me. The other thing I say is "Increase Vividness!!" It is really cool to notice the difference from before and after I say those things. I hope this helps

meditation helps...(from plain concentration enhancement, to shakra work)

also commands help (these are technically OBE commands, but they should work in some Lucid Dreams, cause you're often out of body when dreaming, it's just that you're subconscious is still turned on producing a dream like background):

when in a lucid dream/obe you can shout things like:

"increase lucidity!" : a wave of lucidity should hit you, feeling like a vibration that clears up your environment (less hazy, more lifelike)

"take me to "BLANK"": you can go anywhere you want, cities, houses. You can even say "take me where I need to go".

"remove all illusion": it should remove all dream crap, revealing the bare astral realm.

Recently my ld's have started happening again, though like you I have had troubles making my powers work

Though when i become aware, i look at my hands and yell 'Increase Lucidity!' multiple times, each time i feel a stage of me awakening. Then i try something and it doesn't work.

Tonight if i lucid *hopes* im going to yell the lucidity and then crouch down and feel the carpet, concentrate on it, and smell it. I'll then stand up and and I will change my dreamscape to an ocean. I'll walk across the top of the waster and feel the odd sensation of floating just above the surface. This is the kind of stuff that you need to do to just be aware of your power

Random LDs would almost always be like that. Since you are not prepared you wont take full control and most likely will forget to use LD improving techniques.

So try thinking about what you want to do ahead of time. When your mind has some specific task to work with the LDs seem to be better and more vivid...

As for control - you havent practiced it for a year... It takes practice to get in the right mindset.

You have to realize while you're in the dream that it is very much like a seperate plane of existance where anything is possible at all. To start, I focus on my senses very much so. You'll soon realize after strongly focusing on things like the smell of the air and how blue the sky is that everything just looks, feels, and seems so real. After that, if you want to do what you want, have a set intention. Don't go deciding while you're in the dream: have your intent ready. After that, you can try some of the techniques I've mentioned in my "going somewhere else" thread, such as changing the channels on a TV and climbing in or just expecting a new scene behind a door. I've tried the door thing and it worked. Pull a remote out of your pocket (it will be there if you expect it) and push a button that says something like "Lucidity +" (like Ch+ and Vol+ on TV remotes). Those are just a small number of things you can do.
