      Your mindset is everything!

Hi all, this is my first post.... hope it will be useful for some...

I feel the need to share with those that are at the beginning of lucid dreaming journey, and struggle with their existence in Lucid Dreams. I would like to share my experience from last night as it was a great lesson for me.

Before I start here is a little insight; I am reading the book "Lucid dreaming - Gateway to the inner self" (amazing book but the way) and I came across a quote that goes: The dream space largely mirrors your ideas, expectations, and beliefs about it. By changing your expectations and beliefs, you change the dream space. Realising mental space responds the best to mental manipulation, you let go of physical efforts and use the wings of your mind.....

Now, in my last lucid dream I was flying around some village and spotted a girl walking down the road. I flew closer and called at her "Do you need a lift?" To my surprise she was totally unsurprised by me flying above her head and said something like... "Yea, why not?" So I flew down and landed next to her. She was the kind of gothic looking girl and not particularly slim. More towards the other end of the spectrum to be honest (it is important to mention as you will understand). Well, I picked her up and took off.... we flew for a few seconds, and as I held her in my arms I thought to myself... Wow, I am surprised that her weight does not effect my flying ability! And as soon as I said that... as if my flying engines started to stumble or the gravity woke up.... I started to struggle to maintain altitude, let alone flying higher. I stumbled through some tree branches and manoeuvred in between some electrical or phone cables running in between the buildings... she was panicking and complaining.... I thought to myself, wow wow... its all ok, its all in my mind... I am in control.....its all ok..... and as if my engines picked up again and we continued flying (not as smoothly as before I have to say).

I hope this demonstrates the power of you belief you have in the dream world.

Now I am surprised how quickly I learned, because a few minutes later I was attempting to change my scene by walking through a door.... it didn't quite work for me... I believe it was because the door was partially made of glass and I could see what was actually behind.... perhaps that made it a bit harder to change the scene.... however, then I saw some kind of bunker like basement with an old door, with pealing paint and covered with tons of spider webs.... I came to the door and as I was reaching for the handle... a thought of a huge spider waiting behind crossed my mind.... I realised that it was normally pretty unlikely but now when I had the though in my mind pretty likely to actually happen that a huge arachnoid would wait there for me had I opened the door.... realising the power of my thought over there..... therefore... I pulled back and didn't go in.....(I didn't feel like fighting huge spider frankly :-D)

Your belief you have there is everything and I believe that we all have to go through some experience like this to truly understand and gain confidence in believing that it is really in our minds.....

I wish you great experience in dream world, and if you stumble... remember me....and the fact that its not your arm wings that make you fly.... it is your mind.

Yeah very good book indeed, everyone into LDs should read it.
About flying - it have always been very easy for me to fly in my dreams - almost too easy. It feels as if im controlling a computergame - i was a gamer for many years, and sometimes i feel as if i go into "computergame-mode" when going lucid. Almost as if im abit distant from the me in the dream.

Yea I believe all these experiences help.... If one has never thought of flying it may come a bit hard.... But if one has experiences from let's say computer games.... It certainly helps. It's purely a matter of belief :-)

In my nonlucid dreams I could easily take flight, but control was often difficult to achieve. I could not make turns, and I would often begin losing alititude. Lucid dreaming changed all that, and I finally willed myself to make turns and actually stay in flight. The mind is a powerful thing.
Time to find nom noms. . .

i have tried about 3 times to change the scene of my dream by closing my eyes and believeing, but now i know exactly what im going to do, find a door and vividly imagine an exotic place on the other side, im gonna try to imagine all of the senses too eg what it feels like to be there, the sounds of birds etc i believe that it WILL work this time
