Yeah, dream recall is another one of those hurdles involved in LDing. It takes patience and practice. Before you lay down for sleep remind yourself, "I'm going to dream tonight AND I'm going to remember them when I wake up. I'm sure you know this already, but a Dream Journal is really the easiest way to enhance your recall. Keep a notebook, laptop, or something, right next to your bed. That way, as soon as you wake up, you can write down those dreams. They can, at times, be forgotten within minutes of waking up if you don't get them written down. When you are trying to recall your dreams upon waking up, try to remember the most recent event that happened just before you woke up. Then ask yourself, "Ok, what was I doing before that...and that...and that..." Its much easier to remember dreams in reverse order, for most dreamers.
Also, if you want to take it to the next level, you can set alarms throughout the night, wake up, write down any dreams quickly, then go back to sleep. I used this method when I first started out and it worked wonders. Of course, not everyone has the luxury of setting alarms and being able to get back to sleep. Basically, you try to wake up toward the end of your REM periods. Its hard to be precise, but you can get a general feel for them. I set an alarm after four hours of sleep, then set it in 1 to 1 1/2 hour increments after that. With this method, its much easier to recall multiple dreams per night (2, 3, 4, or even 5 per). If there is anything else, just keep the question coming . I'll glad to help out any way I can.
