      Creative Writing and dreaming?

I'm curious here as a writer myself. If I focus on writing like maybe an hour/half-hour before bed will I be more likely to dream about what I'm writing or would it still be the (mostly) random stuff I usually get?

I used to do this as a kid very often, like thinking about stuff I liked such as Stargate to invoke such dreams and it worked sometimes. Everyone is different but from my experience I can say that when you focus on something and keep thinking about it (not only in bed but the whole day for better results) then the chance of having it in dreams increases.
Maybe even better way is to become lucid and invoke it intentionally.
If you feel like it, please take a look at my YouTube channel:

If you don't, hm well have a nice day anyway ^_^

I hate to admit but recently I became slightly addicted to League of legends (computer game), yup deleting it by spring...
anyways I was at work yesterday from 11-9, with a huge break in between. I lied down on the floor as i was tired. I started drifting off a bit, and was in a semi awake/very semi asleep state. I kept noticing my subconscious's minds urge to pull up imagery from league of legends. And I realized I was actually interacting and playing the game in my head, trying to score a nice kill, using abilities of my character. This would go on for about 30-60seconds, i would realize I was doing it, it would stop, and start up again.

My point is that the more you think about something throughout the day, the more it becomes auto suggestion in grained into your subconscious. So yes writing before bed, but to intensify it, thinking about your writing periodcially through out the day.

Yea, absolutely! You can also incubate dreams of whatever you are writing about by using your intention and being all like, "I will dream of blah blah blah tonight!"

Something I lIke to do is to write down a short sentence of whatever I want to dream about before bed. I will write the sentence about 3-7 times while simultaneously visualizing myself in the dream and feeling what it is like to be there.

That works pretty well for me. Dreams are so awesome for writing, good luck!

I love the idea behind this. As a writer, I totally understand your curiosity. This would make a fantastic experiment. I'm also wondering about attaining lucidity by sitting down before bed and writing "I will achieve lucidity tonight" several times before then writing out a basic scenario of what you would like to achieve during lucidity. I may try this for a couple of weeks and see if it helps. Great, thought provoking idea, dreanwolfhorse!

While "I will achieve lucidity tonight" will get you some of the way, you are better of connecting it to an action. Like "I will achieve lucidity tonight when I <recurring dream action for you>". Otherwise it lacks an aim, making it significantly less potent.

For me, I find the WBTB method to work the best when it comes to wanting to dream about something specific. While writing right before bed certainly wont hurt(and will most likely help), you might want to try to wake your self up a few hours earlier than normal. Focus on your writing for a half hour or so, then go back to bed and try to induce the dream you are wanting by thinking about the scene/scenario you want while you are falling asleep. It works for my with my paintings pretty frequently, and I can even pull off lucid dreams this way fairly easily. Hope that helps!
