      Length of LD's

When I dream, there are a few possibilities of how long the dream takes. Two of them are: Having what seems to be an extremely long dream, but end up waking up 2 hours later then when you fell alseep; having an extremely short dream, but end up waking up late, or past your alarm.

I was thinking, what is stopping us from having LD's that in their, could pretty much last as long as a week in real life, but yet, wake up whenever you wanted to, or as the alarm goes off. Would this be possible?

Laberge offered a sound explaination to this, he suggests that your 'movie schema' is activated and uses techniques like cinema might to simulated elapsed time. His studies show dream time is relatively close to waking time, however this is all based on tests that could be faulty or just worked out that way at the time of testing, who knows. I have to say from my perspective I agree with his statements as I find when Im writing in my dream journal I pick up on these little time lapses and scene skipping.

I once read an account by a Buddhist LDer, in which he described a lucid session in which he dreamt that he was in a hospital bed for a seeming TWO YEARS, recovering from a bad facial injury.

I personally think that them thinking about time and copunting in "one thousand one" etc... would have made their minds think about time thus slowing it down.... because they were thinking about time time went to normal speeds, but yeah also sometimes there are shemas activated where scenes just arent there

I once had a non-lucid that lasted two weeks. It was great, i was on a camping trip with this major hottie. Nothing to complain about there.

If you try polyphasic sleep, and powernapping, you'll notice that 20 minutes of sleep can feel like hours.
The movie cinema explanation doesn't quite cut it for me, although it's a good shot at it.
Usually it's a good enough explanation. Just not for powernapping IMO.

      dream time

i for one believe that lucid dreaming, and dreams in general, transcend real-time. my dreams are relatively short, but after i wake up hours have passed. wether or not i have forgotten dreams during those periods, i dont know. but i think dreams do not follow real-time, and you have that preception of that much time happening, when it only took 30 minutes for example.

my LDs are REALLY short if you compare them to real time, but in the dream they seem relatively lengthy. i havnt been able to do anything in my LDs because i keep waking up...but i thought there was this guy here who had a non lucid dream of traveling underwater across the atlantic ocean and it took him like 30 years in the dream. when he woke up, he said he felt 30 years older lol.
