Hey there,
With no disrespect to the Lucid Task of the Month, which I think is a wonderful initiative, but I like to set my own goals and things to do. I'm really not all that interested in trying to make a glass dog
How long does it take for a goal I set to translate itself into my dreams? There's no telling, that's the problem with dreams. It depends on how lucid I am, on the type of goal I set, and how you measure succes.
- How lucid am I? obviously, if I'm so full blown lucid that I remember what I ate for breakfast that day, well, I will recall my dreamgoal even if I set it the night before. On the other hand, if I'm only semi lucid or very fuddled, I might not remember a dreamgoal even after weeks of setting it and even after having done it the five nights before!
- What kind of dreamgoal? I find that the more "basic" your dreamgoal is, the easier it is to remember. The more abstract and complex, the harder. Giving an example to illustrate: Remembering to 'have sex' or 'fly' or 'run faster then a train' are generally easy to remember, and will usually make it in my dreams real quickly, in only a day or such. Remembering to find an abstract 'dream guide' character and having a discussion with him/her/it on how I can improve my chances at WILD, is a much more abstract dreamgoal, and a lot harder to remember for me.
- How do I measure succes? If I set as my dreamgoal that 'I want to fly', is it enough to simply float above the ground, do I have to have control? How much control? How fast should I fly? Again, how you measure succes is important too. I find that if I set an intention there's usually traces of it in my dream, but they're not always clear. Suppose I wanted to find a famous actor in my dreams. I might not succeed, but I might find a tv where they're playing a movie with that actor in it. Is that a succes or not? Usually, the "traces" can find their way in my dreams real quickly, but depending on the complexity of the goal, the full thing itself can take longer.
These three, and some other factors combine to make it really hard to say how long it takes. Although for reference, if my dreamgoal is easy and I'm not seeing any result in a week, I will begin to wonder if I have to adjust something. If it's complex I usually give it two-three weeks.
Hope that helps somewhat,
