How to gain the most control (tried various methods)

So I've always read and used the methods of rubbing your hands together and studying all the details of your environment. I usually end up crouching down low so that I see a small perspective of my dream like a good 3 feet section of the ground. In my most recent lucid dream a week ago it was a WBTB but with no lucid reading in between I just took a nap on my parents bed (i've had 3x more lucid dreams there than I have anywhere else) and proceeded to have 2-3 moments of lucidity after waking back up and passing out 5 seconds later the first one being the longest and then shortening.

In the first one I looked down at the ground and rubbed my hands together, did all of that, but the environment still seemed grainy and not as clear as it could have be. Like if you can imagine my dream (this is in computer terms here) being full and clear would display lets say 10 million pixels. After looking at the detail and rubbing my hands together I'm only seeing about 6 million of these pixels, its not as detailed as it could be. I proceeded to fly having not gained the stability I wanted which of course made me lose my lucidity and wake up about 6 seconds later.

So what other methods can I use? Or is there some way to use the rubbing hands and studying the environment methods better? Maybe I was doing it too fast or wasn't believing it as much as I should have...

I suppose that constantly reassuring yourself that you are dreaming should do the trick, also, hand rubbing is supposed to increase vividness. In my lucid dreams, I have always had perfect control and the vividness was on par with real life. My problem is that the length of my LDs is usually far too short.

definitely going to try that one, sounds like it could work since most of lucid dreams is having confidence and realizing the reality of the situation

When I had frequent LD's I would say stuff like

CLARITY TIMES 10 and stuff and it worked most of the time.

I think u are wrong. When u think u sleep, but u are concious u make your mind (ok i am talking about myself) to want to wake you/put you in oder dream. So basicly knowing that u are lucid makes your dream weaker and thats why u must shout rubb hands and the other stuff.

For me, I usually take a couple minutes just clearing my head. I make note of the environment and express wonder in the dreamscape. Then I do a few simple math equations in my head. Nothing too hard, but nothing rote either. Then if things don't get clearer I usually stare at my hands and do this thing I call "finding edges". It's like turning up the contrast between the edges of objects. Like the "sharp" tool in Photoshop. I can usually get perfectly formed and stable hands using this method.

      Good luck!

I think for my next lucid dream I'm just going to go around and examine everything. Look at it closely and find the edges, as well as trying to smell everything. I may also do some crazy stuff like start licking the wall and see if I can taste anything.

I've been reading various other threads and I think I'm just going to try and use all of my senses to try and ground myself.. see if I can make some improvement...

I had a WILD the other day while napping and I've noticed with each lucid even if I don't actively practice remembering my dreams and all that I am gaining more and more control... now I've just got to become lucid more often and I'll be golden

It seems study of something detailed is the best way to gain clarity. I'm trying to get better dream control myself, so I'll start testing some of these.

A method that recently worked for me is smelling. I try to smell things a lot. It is important to involve as many of your senses as possible.

I usually do something completely insane. Y'know, something crazy.

Try jumping out of a moving vehicle to land on two feet. Or stopping a speeding car by holding up your hand.

Do something that defies all logic.
      Are you dreaming?

I tried this in my LD last night and everything was perfectly clear, 100% realistic ... for 10 seconds. Then it got foggy again. Next time, I'm going to try "Perfect clarity for 20 minutes!"

Also, when I did this, all my dream characters looked at me. It was a tad bit embaressing.

Well, I study the surroundings and put use to my senses, it really helps not only with the clarity but my control as well. I find that when I do that, I pretty much can do anything I think of without a hitch.

I'd like to report in real quick that in the past 7 days I've had 3 lucid dreams, 2 wbtb and 1 Wild during a nap

unfortunately I still don't stay lucid very long and the most recent one I simply lost lucidity and remained in the dream as opposed to waking up. I have noticed however that with each lucid I'm gaining more control. In the most recent lucid dream that I had this morning I licked two different things as well as studying a few different objects. I don't think I had as much control as I'd like since I probably would have studied more stuff to ground myself instead of trying to turn my closet into a doorway to the nice sandy beaches of aurba thus losing lucidity.

One thing I have noticed is I can see my judgement or lucidity becoming cloudy when I try to do simpler things so I still need to work on grounding myself some how. Maybe talking to myself more like 'this is a dream, I am god of my mind and can do anything I want'...

In the 2nd lucid dream I had I actually did state 'I am god of this dream' but I got excited and woke up =\ I guess I'll just have to keep working at it

I don't think you can make something like that work for 20 minutes.
