      My flying problems

I seem to be fine getting in the air (I just jump 4m then go) but I've been failing recently at controlling my flight. I use a method I just do cos it is comfortable which is flying kinda like superman but with a more bird kind of style. Like I tilt and turn my body, which directs me.

From what I remember last night, once I was lucid I jumped... fail... jumped, then took off. I was going ~40km/h but then everything stops working and I descend. I kinda summon control and go up and regain altitude and the pattern repeats.

What can I do to stop this?

Hey Tushix, funny to see another member from New Zealand.
I also have trouble flying. When I fly, I have to first jump about 1 metre off the ground. Often I will just fall on my face. I think for me its just I have trouble beliving I can fly. Dreams are illogical, but when I am lucid I sometimes think logically so it seems to restrict certain things I can do. Maybe you just need confidence. Possibly you are doubting you can fly so you start to come back to earth (literally).

I really need to refine my flying skills. When I fly, I jump into the air then literally doggy-paddle and at very slow speeds I move into the air, as if I am swimming in the sky. I never achieve more than 20 metres above ground because I freak out.

      lol.

yeah. flying's difficult. you'll get it down. I still have trouble and I've had tooons of flying dreams.

      Here's some tips.
      - Maybe you're going too fast? Slow it down.
      - Maybe you're getting too excited? Calm down.
      - Maybe you're using the wrong technique? Mix it up!
(Remember: You CAN fly with all these techniques)
      - Try using your hands as 'jet engines' in which they direct your movement.
      - Imagine that you can move your body like one of those 'Crane' games where you try to grab the stuffed animal.
      - Imagine that your body is opposed/attracted by magnetic forces to something (the ground/earth, certain rooftops, etc) (:Also works for Telekinesis very well for me, using my hands as super magnets.)
      - Imagine that you're Iron Man and all your extremeties have jet engines (haven't tried that one yet)
      - Try swimming through the air.

Who knows why it happens? Logic is thrown out the window while asleep.

Maybe it's because you both are from New Zealand, or you use the metric system.

But seriously, New A=Zealand is awesome, I wish they would let me live there.
I started out bouncing higher and higher or treading water but only air. It just takes practice. retraining your mind and getting familiar with dream physics. One time I rode a bicycle that had helicopter wings. Now I fly like superman. I'd like to have a flying carpet.

I had the same problem of freaking out when I would achieve altitude. I don't actually fly in dreams. It's more like levitating, or repelling gravity. Every time I would get high, I would go faster and faster and even if I tried to come down, I would still be moving upwards. I would either fall out of the sky, or wake up.

Right after I joined DV, I said I was not going to be afraid anymore, and I rocketed up into outer space. It was amazingly beautiful. If you are lucid, just keep telling yourself, "This is a dream," and you won't be scared.

Hi, I just wanted to coment on rocketing into outer space. I did it once. I turned around and saw the whole planet from space. I got so scared that I immediately headed towards earth again. I was moving back down very quickly and got afraid that I was going to hit the ground. So I made myself wake up. Ever since then I could never achieve space again. Even though I tryed many times there after. Earth Bound and Bummed

hmmm... i had a couple of problems flying... at first... i guess our mind is not used to it... you know because we can't actually fly in real life. but its only till the mind gets used to it...

here is my advice.. the whole jumping thing is very effective, keep doing that, and when your in the air or just trying to get off the ground... set a target, if theres a building around think "i wanna fly to that window up there" and just go for it... i mean set yourself a trajectory, a place to go... even if its just a place in the sky like a cloud or something... that way you have to keep flying till you get there...

in my case that's what i do, if I feel like i'm loosing altitude i set my self a trajectory like 'I wanna go there!' and i do the superman thing... it works great for me... give a try

      hope it helps

If I jump I go straight up, way higher then I want. This is actually a method to go out of body from your lucid dream. What works better for me is run and glide in the air from there. From there I fly superman style.

hmmm its very different for everyone... I guess you just gotta find your style, believe in what you do, know that you can do it, and so you will

Don't force it though... i was just reading some interesting stuff about how the mind responds better when you don't force it... think about what you want and just let it flow...

Exactly the same for me. I float, I don't glide around at high speeds. I push off the air.

Oh gosh no. I have dreams sometimes in which I go into space and can't get back to earth, and start floating into strange places often getting close to black holes and massive stars. It makes me feel sick. I will however try to fly into space for a laugh and see what happens. Hopefully I wont regret it.

I don't try superman style anymore. I always imagine crashing and do immediately. The crashes are always really cool though. Now I fly "iron man" style kind of. I just am in the air and lean forward slightly but keep my feet beneath me. I like this better to because I can control it in tight places and land better.

Trying flying in different positions. Last night I was having difficulty flying so I tried doing it in a sitting position, with my legs out in front of me.
