Closing Eyes In Dream Has Negative Results

For whatever reason, it is normally a bad idea for me to close my eyes at any point during an LD. Usually one of two things happen:

      1. My brain thinks I've closed my real eyes so if I try to open them I wake up.
      2. I open them, still asleep, but the scene has changed.

      Any suggestions/work-arounds?

      All the best,
      Youssarian

The best idea would be to simply not close your eyes, though I don't know how successful that would be.

If you do find that your eyes are closed and you're still dreaming, don't try to open them, just continue to move through the dream using your senses of touch and hearing. If you can do this for a while without waking up, you'll eventually start seeing through closed eyes, and not long after that it'll just start to feel like your eyes are open again.

Although, it would make for some good practice with DEILD. I don't know if ya'll usually experience it where you close your eyes, lose dream control, and then immediately wake up, but with me I've found there's a sort of "sleep purgatory" where I spend a few seconds in closed-eye darkness but I'm still asleep. It's a rather disorienting experience.

Ive had that and I think of it as like being in the void, sometimes I see a red curtain and its like waiting for the next dream to start and then the curtain opens and I see a scene and then next thing you know I'm in the scene. So the blackness is in wait of the next movie sometimes if you wait it out.

Anyway I dont close my eyes in dreams otherwise it wakes me up as well/puts me in that blackness where I'm more likely to wake up and lose a scene, so I dont risk it. Sometimes I might blink and think and attempt to change the scene quickly but thats about it.

When I shifted into black smoke I couldnt see because it was really black. lol. So it was like shutting my eyes and I couldnt see very well, so I reformed otherwise I wouldve woken up.

Anyway I guess if you wanted to try to stay lucid after shutting your eyes you would just have to wait it out till the next scene just pops up. I seem to get a red curtain that opens up and it goes from there.

Don't think about your eyes, then.

When I begin my dream in a field of black, I rub the darkness out of my eyes. Try using your hands/rubbing your eyes instead of directly opening them.

I have the same kind of problem, about 50% of the time that I realise that I am dreaming, my eyes shut somewhere along the lines and whenever I open them my real eyes open and then I cannot do a DEILD as I have opened my eyes already. It's really annoying but I think what Serith said would work very well.

This happens to me as well. The best bet is to not close your eyes at all, but if you feel that they are closing on their own turn your focus to something else. If you are worried about your eyes closing then they are most likely going to start to close. Stabilizing the dream may help; you could rub your hands together or use some other similar technique.

You guys presented some good ideas, because this happend last night, as soon as i turned lucid i was walking up to this unkown house to see who lived there and my eyes closed. But these are good ideas about rubbing your eyes, and not thinking about them, its always a good idea to stabalize as soon as you become lucid.
