      Dream Interpretation -- Sinking City

I have a lot of dreams that don't make sense to me, and I actually got referred here for telling about this particular dream. I'll start a Dream Journal to keep track of all these things later, but I wanted to make this first.

I was running up stairs, in a big hurry. The stairs were long and twisted, and many of the steps gave way when I stepped on them. Beneath me water was rising, filling up the building. I climbed faster and faster, until finally I made it out to the rooftop and stopped to catch my breath because I was already exhausted. The sky was a deep orange, so it was either dawn or dusk, and the stars were out early. I looked out around me and saw that the entire city had been nearly submerged, and was still sinking, except for an exceptionally tall tower in the distance. I began running toward the tower for safety, leaping from rooftop to rooftop as the buildings sank into the sea. As I started to get closer, black birds began to dive at me. Whenever they struck me, they left a large black splotch, like an ink stain. The stains didn't hurt, and I didn't pay them much attention because I was too busy trying to make it towards the large tower. The wind picked up, and lightning began to strike around me at random, which made it harder for me to jump correctly and startled me at weird moments.

As I cleared the final jump to the tower, the tower began to sink as well, so I began to furiously scale the wall, while still being harassed by the wind and lightning. Many times I fell, only to catch myself on a ledge below. It really hurt my fingers to do that. When it seemed I may finally reach the roof of the building, the bricks I was holding on to gave way, and I began to fall. Suddenly, a hand darted out and caught me, and began to pull me over the edge.

I looked up and saw a woman with long black hair in an elegant, red and white ballgown. Her thin arms didn't look like they could support me, but she was dragging me up all the same. Behind her, was my best friend, a girl who I met when I was only ten and who has been living with me for about a year now. She just stood there staring at us, looking as upset at the whole world and everything in it as she usually is. After a moment, she gave a small grimace, like she was disgusted with just looking at me, and I was able to see that she had elongated fangs like a vampire. I was confused as to why she was there, but I didn't question it for very long.

I began to pull myself up, but I passed my eyes over the woman's face. The color of her eyes was a burning red. I suddenly panicked. I didn't want to be anywhere near her, and I struggled until I was able to break free of her grip. After I managed to shake her off, I naturally fell into the water and sank until I couldn't see any light anymore.

      Then I woke up.

      So, what is your take?

The dream setting or stage is "a sinking city". Meaning your current situation in life or how you are going about living it is not working for you. You are seeking to evolve as suggested by going "up the stairs". Going up a stairway in life always suggests we are currently rising up or evolving, even with a little back sliding along the way ( 3 steps forward , one step back, that kind of thing). In the dream you are running so hard you are exhausted, which also suggests perhaps you are just going about everything all wrong and need to re evaluate how you are moving through life. As you try to reach a "higher building", the tower, black birds dive at you leaving "stains" that don't hurt. Birds in dreams are messengers, they move through air. Most birds are bringers of good messages but a black bird usually symbolizes some gossip or devious intent by others. This would seem to say that you have surrounded yourself with people who you can't really trust, may talk about you behind your back and may attempt to "use you". The elegant woman, nicely dresses, who attempts or pretends to rescue symbolizes you may get fooled by appearances. You may think someone wants to help you when in fact they are really "vampires" which is dream language for saying someone who sucks your energy, uses you, or is only only for their own gain.

To sum it up...the dream suggests that your current life situation needs to improve. You may be hanging out with or trusting the wrong people. "The city is sinking"....means it is time to C'hange your living situation and how you approach your life. If I had this dream I would take a long hard look at everyone around me, and clear out any influences which will not help you get ahead or evolve as a spiritual being.

      just my thoughts...

Interesting. I'd never thought I'd hung around a bad crowd, but lately, I have been noticing that they've been talking about me behind my back ever since word got out that my friend was staying with me. As far as the vampire is concerned, my friend is a tremendous drain on me. Mostly because she is so inherently confrontational, and I need to watch her all the time because she's kind of inept with day-to-day activities. Thanks for the thoughts, this is something to think about.

Remember this.....dreams EXAGGERATE to get our attention, otherwise we just blow them off. So to make you Think about your life, sometimes the messages get presented in dramatic format. Your friend is a tremendous drain. You said it, dream is confirming it. It's up to you to change that.

There's nothing to really be done about it. She's always been exhausting. That said, I will deal with the chatter that's been going around.

Awesome dream. It must have felt intense to leap multi-story buildings. I've seen this symbol once before but not so sure what it refers to in the realm of the real.

I looked out around me and saw that the entire city had been nearly submerged, and was still sinking, except for an exceptionally tall tower in the distance. I began running toward the tower for safety, leaping from rooftop to rooftop as the buildings sank into the sea.
I think the city submerging means repressing or sublimating an obsession. By law of association, the most salient archetypical memory charge would be the City of Atlantis. Your dreams are full of strong meaning, this ones a prelude to the next. The most pronounced of the psychological alchemy is the fact this city is submerging and in the next dream, there's no visible water. I wonder why. The female at the top of the tallest tower is a death head (Black, White and Red). Black and White means split object. Red is bloodline and genetics.
