      Recurring theme - Giant waves

So last night I had a dream that I was at a beach and the surf was getting rougher every wave. It got to a point where the waves were like walls of water and when they crashed, they crashed down, but not out for some reason.

I've had other dreams like this in the past, but the others involved the beach getting steeper and steeper until it was nearly vertical, impossible to climb up so that I would be trapped between walls of water and sand. I wouldn't classify these as nightmares because I never actually felt fear, maybe just worry.

I'm wondering what this could mean if anybody has any ideas. iIve had these dreams occasionally for as long as i can remember and I'm interested to see what people think.

I have been having these exact dreams since I was a little girl! They're always terrifying :< I'm glad to know I'm not the only one, but sorry to say I can't help. I've looked everywhere I could think of for answers

I actually had one where a wave turned into a massive red flag. I repeatedly keep hearing that the ocean or beach is a representation of your psyche or subconscious in general and that it's getting to be more than you can handle. I guess it sort of makes sense, because I tend to have these dreams when I'm depressed. How about you? Or are they random?

I never really thought to keep track of what was going on mentally when I had these. I've always just gone along with it until now. For me it could be something along those lines, I just had exams so maybe it was worrying or something, not so much being depressed. But the beach representing the subconscious is an interesting way to look at it, I'll try thinking about that next time this happens, maybe i'll be able to figure out what's going on haha. Thanks for the reply!

Generally the ocean represents the unconscious and the land represents the consciousness, so the beach is the point where they meet. Turbulent waves mean something is stirring unconsciously that could become dangerous or threaten to swamp you. But I'd say the waves crashing down into the land but not spreading outward is a good sign that your conscious mind s able to absorb the impact so far with no trouble.

A wave turning into a red flag - now that's interesting!! It's almost a cartoon image - and it seems like your mind was trying to say "Hey - this is dangerous!'.

So yeah, unconscious forces threatening to well up and overwhelm to conscious capacity to remain rational - possibly emotions or fears. But these dreams sound like only vague warnings of potentially worse danger. You ought to keep track of any dreams you can remember, write them doawn as soon as you wake up, and also write about anything important going on in your life that might relate.
