      Always Darkness

For some reason, as long as I can remember it's always been dark in my dreams, like the middle of the night kind of dark most of the time, is there a reason for this?

Light and darkness in dreams do carry a very specific meaning. Light represents intelligence, knowledge, information. While light has also been seen as conveying certain emotions such as optimism, joy etc., one learns a lot more from their dreams using the former meaning. When a person is said to be "in the light", they are understood as being "in the know".

Darkness of course then represents the absence of intelligence. If your dream scenes are all in darkness, it implies that you are looking at various situations in your life without using any intelligence. This especially means without using the Lord's intelligence since the main source of light is from the sun (which is a symbol of God). If you are "in the dark" you are lacking information.
