the common teeth falling out but unsure about the reasons

      Emma November 11, 2013
I was talking to a person I have never met. There was nothing around me, not even other people, nothing, just this stranger and while talking I heard a crunching noise then felt a tooth fall out into my mouth. I pulled it out of my mouth to examine it and the stranger continued to talk while I did so. I was scared, terrified when the tooth came out but I tried to ignore it, while the stranger continued to talk, oblivious. Suddenly, I heard another crunching sound and then another tooth fell out. This continued until most of my teeth, on my right side, had fallen out. I became close to panic by the end, fear was the emotion I felt the strongest. Fear of losing my teeth and never having them again. The stranger continued to talk during the whole event, watching but never making comment over my teeth falling out, but I was grateful that this stranger didn't notice but confused with how he didn't seem to notice. This is a constant dream I have been having for the past month

Here are a few ideas about the image of losing teeth in dreams that might be helpful.

For example, over the centuries, the rows of teeth have been seen by people as the “battlements” protecting the inner soul, and this idea crops up in dreams. If the teeth are in bad condition, falling out etc., it could point for instance to some misguided attitude or way of looking at things that is putting the person’s overall outlook and behaviour at risk in some way.

Also, the image of teeth loosening and falling out often relates to anxiety dreams. Maybe a person recently experienced an upsetting incident, but might not have seen how it affected them and the dream is trying to point out that any unacknowledged anxiety could take hold too much if not dealt with in some way.

Additionally, teeth can sometimes symbolize aggressiveness. Eventually becoming rotten, falling out etc. could therefore point to a certain aggressiveness being the specific type of “misguided attitude” mentioned above, but a person could be very unconscious of the fact that he or she even experienced having aggressive feelings towards others, so the dream makes it plain in the image of teeth falling out etc.

In addition, in times past when the image of losing one’s teeth appeared in a dream, the automatic and mostly superstitious assumption was that it was connected in some way with physical death although in reality, it normally represents a danger to overall psychological health.

The idea of death being attached to the image of losing one’s teeth in a dream could have arisen from the fact that in the past, older people often would have lost all of their teeth and this would make it hard for them to consume adequate nourishment, contributing significantly to illness and death. Scurvy also caused the teeth to fall out and death usually followed soon after. The inability to effectively “chew over”, swallow and digest various psychological issues can lead to serious problems in the long run.

As always, gathering spontaneous memories, thoughts and feelings about a given image in a dream can be a starting point in finding at least a basic clue about its meaning.

If a generally good interpretation is hit upon by the person by sifting through what emerges from gathering memories etc., then a recurring dream should stop or at least happen much less often, especially if any appropriate changes the person makes are kept up over time.

In this case, you can consider if a decision might have been made or an action taken etc. just before the dreams began to appear which may not have been in your best interests overall.

Perhaps the stranger who doesn’t react to your teeth falling out represents the fact that you’re too unaware/unconscious of any such problem, and by focusing on his image in the dream while gathering memories etc., a vital clue will appear about the meaning of this very upsetting dream.

I hope these ideas can be helpful in some way.

Talking Anxiiety over Meeting New People?

Also, perhaps the stranger can mean you are anxious about meeting new people, in the past month. "Talking to a person I have never met."
This could still fit with this aspect of yourself not seeing or recognizing your problem.
"The stranger continued to talk," throughout sounds like being afraid to talk to strangers. And you'd be grateful they did not notice, but this is confused because you see through to the truth.

It might be a bit of the recent trend of social anxiety.
You tried to ignore it, remained oblivious. So the crunch comes, making you almost panic.
Did you meet new people a month ago, or think of it the last month?

I was in a situation where I was surrounded by people I didn't know and they were making me feel uncomfortable and unwanted because I came with my ex, which I'm friends with.
But I do have issues when talking to people I don't know.
