Can any one interpret this mess?

I constantly been having dream, or nightmares rather, but that's not what I'm wanting interpreted. I dream that I'll wake up from these nightmares to see a kindly faced old man at edge of my bed. The nightmares are all ones I've had before but the only reoccuring thing is the nice older man at the foot of my bed.

Our house is old and the room I sleep in is the room the older man who owned it before us died in. His name was Roy and according to all the neighbors he was the sweetest old man what ever lived, but I've never seen a picture of him.

In my dreams, he always holds his hand out to me liek he's trying to give me something. His mouth is moving but I can't hear his voice. I can't seem to see what he wants to give me or tell me, but I just can't but help feeling that it is important.

I know it's vague, but any thoughts?

Maybe it's just influenced from people telling you about the kind old man that used to live there. (And the fact that he died there)

I guess it depends, do you believe in the "supernatural."

If you believe in the supernatural this isn't going to sound so crazy- I would just sit down in your room before you go to sleep and have a calm quiet talk with this spirit. Tell Roy that you have heard how nice he is but that the dreams are a little scary to you. Tell him that you think he trying to tell you something but you can't understand him maybe if he could show you or find another way to get his message across that would be helpful. I don't know, if there is a spirit there it seems nice and intelligent. I have lived places where strange things would happen if they began to frighten me I would talk aloud to what ever it was and let it know how I felt- sounds nuts I know but it worked 99.9% of the time to stop what ever was scaring me.

      Old Man of Dream

This "Old Man" as you call him is well known by many cultures. See this wiki link for basics http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wise_old_man When he appears he has something very important to convey to you about your life. Something to teach you. He is the Universal Sage. see also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sage_(Sophos) If i were having your dream of this old gentle person trying to 1 give me something and 2 communicate. I'd figure out a way to both receive gift from him ie thing he's handing u as well as what he's saying. Something i would suggest is the following technique works for me - Before u goto bed each night (ie just before your actually lay down to goto sleep) do the following until dream result manifests.. Turn off all distractions ie tvs, music, etc.. then sit on bed, close your eyes and imagine as vividly as you can the Old Man sitting wherever he normally appears. Also realize this movie you run in your head is controllable ie just like DVD etc u can stop, fast fwd, reverse, etc. I want u to imagine putting a dvd in your mental player called "Old Man" and this is the dream you've been having. Imagine turning it on just like a regular movie except it plays in your head and you can see it just as vividly as watching regular tv. You can adjust the volume etc... just like in real world. Now imagine starting from beginning of movie and fast forwarding to the "Old Man" when u get to place where he hands u something "pause" the mental picture in your mind.. see if you can identify it. push zoom on your imaginary remote and zoom in on the item he's handing u. when u can see it then i want u to unpause your mental dvd player and continue until "Old Man" of dream starts talking. If you can't hear what he's saying imagine that on your mental remote u can just turn up the volume by saying to yourself "LOUDER". And then say that to yourself as you continue to watch his mouth move "LOUDER". Now either you'll actually hear this or it'll reset your mind to turn up the volume when u dream. Continue doing this until u get the results u desire in dream..

If you really want to know what he's saying you'll soon know. "Knock and the door shall be opened" he / she with a thirst for understanding shall have it given to them. Desire is the key. Conquering ones fear is desirable as well. Also an intention to do something beneficial with the knowledge you "get".. If you are female the old man might be your guide. Generally men have the "Great Mother" Muse(s) or Norn female characters that teach in dream see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Mother whereas females have the opposite.

I can tell something is going on that the true u isn't "into" because you are having reoccuring dreams and nightmares. Generally we have reoccuring dreams when we don't deal with issues in our internal / external life. If we ignore the message long enough the "messages" become nightmares in order to get our attention, variation on "SCARED STRAIGHT" motif.... lol joking aside.. Your dreams can tell you more about you than any book / school / job / teacher /govt / etc..... The problem is you have to learn how to "read" them. It's like learning say "chinese". It's both symbolic in nature as well as prone to metaphor. see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metaphor Think of them as stories or movies with you the leading actor / actress. If you become lucid you can ask dream figures / characters questions directly and thereby get a leg up on figuring things out. hope this helps....

Oh that's very cool, ShamanicMystic. I've never tried asking questions directly to dream figures/characters. (Never dawned on me to try, but now that you mention it--makes perfect sense.) Has anyone in this thread tried that?

It could also be a coping mechanism. You have heard of this kind old man, and you imagine him there to comfort you after a bad dream. I do believe in ghosts, to an extent, so it could also be that.
