      Question about dream recall.

Hey there! I've been on this forum for 3 years and for some reason one day I jut stopped coming. I've decided I want to try this again! Now, as with many people with horrible short term memories I can't seem to remember any of my dreams! I wake up and remember darkness. Now I'm sure that isn't all I dream of so I wanted to know if a technique I'm sure I didn't create will work. It works basically as a MILD but instead of repeating something to induce a lucid dream you just repeat "Tonight I will remember my dream." Or something in that manner. I was actually inspired to do this by this nice thing which was to write down your lucid dream intent. So, my question is do any of you think this would actually work to help dream recall?

Also, I apologize if I seem ranty and if the sentences don't flow well. It took me 30 minutes to write this on and off because I'm distracted easily :3

If you put real, emotional impact behind your words, than it will come true. Another thing that may help is to lie in bed for a few minutes after waking up and think about your dreams. Even if you started of with blackness, doing this can result in remembering a full story that you would never know about otherwise. Good luck.

To add to what splodeymissile said, you can also do general memory practice, like recalling whole day before going to sleep. Also alternatively to your mantra you can also try something like "I wake up after each dream and remember it", since waking up right after dream is best time to recall it.

Oh yes, that should help. Other things that should help are keeping diaries (similar to what splodeymissile said, although he didn't actually say diary XD) and simply thinking about dreaming throughout the day. You don't have to spend hours thinking about the action--just take a couple of moments out of the time that you're awake to anticipate the dream(s) that you'll definitely remember tonight.

It's also been suggested before that even if you don't remember your dream, write in your DJ anyway. You know, something like, "7-25-13: couldn't remember dream." Perhaps it will aid you to think about the emotions that you felt once you woke up (e.g., elation, sadness, numbness, etc.). You never know what'll be your trigger.
