      Strange old dreamsign coming back

The way I understand use of a dreamsign is that when you see it in waking life you perform a RC, then when you are in a dream and you see the sign hopefully you will do the same there to initiate a question like "Am I dreaming?" to trigger mindfulness within the dream.

I have a dream sign that used to be in almost all of my natural lucids as a child and she showed up in two consecutive dreams last night which tells me maybe she never went and that I stopped being able to recognize her as my dream recall slipped away into my teenage years.

My question is: Having never existed in my waking life experience, how can I use my Lady In The Red Dress (That is what I call her, I never asked her for her name and doubt I would get an honest answer anyway) to achieve reliable lucidity if she begins appearing in all of my dreams again?

I was really excited to write it down when I realised it was her and remembering that makes me feel like good things can start happening in my life again.

you can visualize those dreams you had and imagine you get lucid and what you would do. you can visualize/imagine any scene where she participate and imagine to get lucid. do this whenever you have some time during the day and before bed. this should increase the chances that you will dream about her and because you link it with getting lucid you might do this also during the dream then.

so instead of developing the prospective memory connection physically like I do with say, elevators, I visualise a scenario where I interact with The Girl In The Red Dress and also visualise myself triggering reality checks at the same time to condition prospective memory that way?

Then again I could get close if I also RC in waking life each time I see a lady with a red dress on or would this be counter-productive?

      BadAssLongCoat,
Some of my DS are also things that don't happen to me in real life - like fighting physically or having a sleep disorder (can a DS get more ironic? )
I practice using both of these ways to spot them - the visualization method that RelaxNDream mentioned as well as awareness+RC when I see something similar IRL.

      Like you said,
you can do the Prospective memory approach evertime you see something or someone that remindes you of your dreamsign (everytime your mind pops up and thinking about lucid dreaming is good and then it is good to check if you are dreaming) but you also can do the visualization (in addition or instead like you want to) to pop up the intention and thinking about lucid dreaming and in particular to get your dreamsign more often.

But dont overrate Dreamsigns. it is good to know them and work with them but focusing alone on them wont make you lucid that much. or with other words dreamsigns are not the only or a necessary way to get lucid. general critical awareness of your state (awake or asleep) in any way will fruit in regular lucids when done right
