      RC-1 Zebrah

      RC-1*

Welcome to RC-1 or introduction to reality checking. I am your professor zebrah. Over the next few weeks we will go in depth with reality checking and awareness. If you haven't already make sure to read the syllabus! In the syllabus I go over class format, office hours, rules, and more.*

My goal is to get everyone started with reality checking and becoming more aware, which is a reality check itself.

      First off some terminology:

      RC = reality check
Pinch your nose = when I say this I mean the act of reality checking not just nose pinching
DILD = Dream Initiated Lucid Dream
lucid = this basicly means you are aware
      DJ = Dream Journal*

What is a reality check? Well a reality check is something you proform to ensure you are awake. If you do this in a dream you can become lucid. This is called a DILD.

Why the DILD? The DILD technique does not mess up your sleep schedual. It can also be used with other techniques. There are other forms of DILD but I am focusing on RC and awareness.

Also consider keeping a DJ. I know that is in my requirements but how hard is it to lie? Most people cannot DILD without one. Sure it may sound stupid but trust me, lucid dreaming is far from stupid. It's one of the most fun things you can do. While awake or asleep.

Check out the DJ feature on this website. It works quite well and keeps you on track. If you are just starting lucid dreaming make sure to write everything down. No matter how short or weird. Of course you don't need to post your dreams on this site.

Ok one final thing before it is time to learn. This is my first time teaching and I encourage all of you to either PM me suggestions or comments. Or post a review in the comment box. I will be using these reviews in a "Teacher's page" to give students a better idea of who I am.

      Time to learn

Starting out: In my opinion this is the hardest part of reality checking. You will most likely go through half the day not even remembering to pinch your nose. Some people like to RC every time they; See a red car, go through a door way, the phone rings. I would encourage everyone to come up with a few "triggers" for helping you RC during the day.*

Another good thing to look for are dream signs. These are things that appear consistently in your dreams. Go back and read your dream journal and find consistent themes. Write them down and RC when you see them.*

For today your homework is to:

      Pick several RCs to do
      Pick 1-3 RC triggers
Try to find some dream signs

Post these in a thread in student workbooks. Title it*

      RC-1 (your name)
      RC-1 zebrah <--- example

All your homework will be kept here.

I am going camping so this will need to do for now. I will be back Friday night so do not panic. This is the hardest time for reality checking because you need to make it a habit.*

exactly as it appears. Drop by the IRC any time you want and I might be there. I am there frequently so chances are high.

I will post actual class times in the IRC when I get back. Most of the material will be posted here and discussed in class.*

And all chat logs will be posted in the syllabus.

      CLASS NUMBER 2

Ok folks time for class number two. But first.. an announcement. I have decided that more time/classes may be required to make this class successful. So if I do and classes and more time you may think, "screw that I didn't sign up for this." if you want to I can only grade you on the part of the class you signed up for.

Ok do by now I am hoping you have started to make a habit of Reality Checking. It is important to make it a habit but... What happens if you just RC because you are supposed to? This is a pitfall for many many many beginning lucid dreamers. You do 500 RCs a day and go to bed thinking, "I will get lucid for sure now." but then you have a dream. Maybe you see a dream sign or a RC trigger. What do you do? Naturaly you RC, but many times the RC will fail and you should become lucid, but you don't! You have done so many RCs without even thinking about it that when the RC actually fails you don't realize it.

How do you stop this from happening?

      1) When you RC during the day don't expect the RC to pass. Expecting it to prove you are awake, even when you 100% know you are is bad. This makes you brain expect a pass and when the RC fails in a dream your sub conscious thinks it passed.

      2) Pay attention when you RC. When you do a RC think deeply about why you are doing it. Don't just do it for the heck of it.

Ok so we all should be able to proform those two steps, right?

Well folks this is a short lesson but it is very important. I have talked to some students who are still having a hard time building the habit so I don't want to over load you.

      HOMEWORK

Homework for today is to read a few pages of the thread "Stupidest ways you've missed becoming lucid"
I want you to pick three posts from this thread; Quote them, and then briefly explain why you think they didn't become lucid and or how they could have become lucid by altering their RC or day to day RC routine.

As always post your homework in the same student workbooks thread you should have made.

I am also adding some dates for live IRC classes. And I am making an amendment to the syllabus concerning dropping students. Don't worry this useually only matters if a student registered and isn't actually doing the course.

Ok yes yes I know this is late I sorry.

Ok folks you have learned about, using reality checks, making your reality checks meaningful, and now you will learn how to build awareness. This built up awareness will aid in reality checking.

Now remeber back to the first class. I told you to pick triggers and find dream signs. During the day you need to constantly look for triggers and dreamsigns. Where ever you are you must be searching for these things.

What does this acomplish? Needing to search for things builds up a residual awarenes. This awareness should transfer from waking to reality.

But sometimes just having this level of awarenes isn't good enough. We need to go deeper! Humans have 5 (documented) senses; touch, taste, smell, sight, and sound. Durring the day all of these are constantly engaged. How much attention you pay to these varries between individual. Buy paying more attention to these we can get a better perception of reality.

Ok sounds simple right? Wrong! Going through the entire day paying attention to these senses can be hard. But it does get easier with practice.

So your focus for this week is your senses. You can focus more strongly on one or two if you want.

      HOMEWORK: Ok homework is
If you are focusing on one or two senses list them.
Write 3 things you have noticed now that you are building awarenes. It can be as simple as a road sign you never noticed or as complex as a note in a song you never heard. If you haven't noticed anything pay more attention!
If you have had a lucid dream since the start of class tell me:

Ok Class number four. To all you students who have made it this far, CONGRATULATIONS! You are over half way done with class. Pat your self on the back. This is the second to last lesson but is very important.

The goal of my entire class is to make you more aware in your life to increase your lucid dream frequency. Here is where things get tricky. I am now going to ask you to question 100% of everything in your day to day life. And yes that means you should question what I just typed.

Now if you do not have a strong grip on "reality" maybe you shouldn't do this.

But here is what you should do. Look at your monitor, think, "why is this here?" "what happened in my day to day life that would generate this monitor?" "is it real?" "is it normal?"

This thinking capitalizes on something called the bleed through effect. This when things from your day to day life creeps into your dreams. Say, you just got through watching a marathon of cops. And you go to sleep. Your dream starts. You are being pulled over. You step on the gas and start driving. You stop and think, "why am i driving away from the cops this cocaine isn't even real." boom you are lucid.

So if you pay more attention to your day to day life you can catch these theme that bleed through. Also remember to keep reality checking with your triggers, odd day to day occurrences, and dream signs.

This is basically it but it is so important. It may seem like a simple concept, just try doing it for an entire day first.

Your homework is to start studying for the test. Go back and read old lessons and logs. Do any homework you haven't completed. This I will assume you all are doing. That means free points!

For extra credit post a recent dream where you were almost lucid or any lucid dream you have had during the class in your student workbook.

Ok time for the last lesson post.

Tomorrows IRC class will mostly be a review for the exam. I will be giving hints to what the test will include and what not. But the students who are there get first pick of private class times.

Private classes will be where I can tell you how you are doing in the class. What you need to score on the final, or I may give you extra credit possibilities if your score is low.

At the end of this class I will give you the questions for the test. These will also be posted in a thread called RC-1 exam. Once you complete the test email it to me titled "yourname RC-1 exam"
