Can someone explain what this picture is from The Matrix?

I've never watched the Matrix, and I never intend to.

But I've seen my fair share of this funny picture:

I know it's from the matrix.

So, who is the loon? And why does he have that psychotic grin on his face?

Just watch the movie? Though Inception beats it by far, it's a good movie dreaming-related.

      Nah, I don't watch R rated stuff.
Is it a difficult question to answer? I only want to know why he is standing in front of a disarrayed cupboard, looking like he just blew up a country.

If it were released today, The Matrix would probably get a 15 rating or less.

The worst thing about it is the violence, and all of that is stylized and comic, not gorey. It's way tamer than all the violent horror films kids see nowadays... it's not even in the same ballpark, it's a mystery why it was rated so highly in the first place.

Watch it for Chrissakes, it's one of the best philosophical movies of all time; the script and direction are very good. 'I never intend to watch the Matrix' is one of the silliest statements I've ever heard. Why not?

The picture is of Agent Smith, who is a renegade program trying to gain ultimate power. I think in that picture he's just assimilated a precognitive program. Which is good for him.

Choosing to not watch it is to cheat yourself out of a worthwhile experience.

Inception can't beat it, The Matrix isn't even a movie about dreaming.

Anyways, just because a movie is rated R doesn't mean it's filled with blood, guts, sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll. The Matrix is really tame, it's like Hello Kitty compared to the internet; go watch it. If not now, make it damn soon.

Just watch it. There is a sex scene and some weird dance scenes with lesbians grinding in the second movie, and a lot of people were wondering why the hell we even needed that scene. Generally, the first movie is really good, the second movie is a little off and the third movie is just weird.

Watch the movie. It's one of the most awesome movies ever made (in many humble opinions), and it's tame as all hell. There is hardly any blood, and I don't even think there is an "F-bomb" dropped anywhere in the entire movie. This forum has miles more adult content than that movie.

And yes, the picture is of Agent Smith. He's the main antagonist of the movie. He was a program that was generated to help keep the human race in line, but he has, since, broken free of his obligations, and is now out to take over the "world", as its most powerful entity.

The picture is actually from Matrix: Revolutions, which is the third (and worst, unfortunately) movie in the series.

I thought the second and third were both very bad. The first one is great though and I don't understand it being R rated... ?!?

I thought the second had an interesting plot.

The Animatrix is a much better addition to the franchise though, I thought.

I actually like the second one - mostly for the outstanding action sequences - but nothing really compares to the first, for me.

Ditto, on the Animatrix, though. I love how much those stories opened up the Matrix universe.

The original had the best plot, but the second movie had the best (BEST) fight scenes (Neo vs the Smiths, highway scene, etc.) The third one was a let down and the ending was vague and unsatisfying.

Well, thanks for nothing people. At least Oneironaut answered the question.

      @all of you

If what marvo says is true, then this film is not "tame" by any stretch of the imagination.

I wonder what you consider offensive. :shudders:

What's offensive about people having sex? And in the dance scene it's just two girls dancing up against each other. Also, there's none of this in the first movie. It's fairly clean and mostly just people fighting like total ninja bosses.

I actually like all three movies and the animatrix, though the first was the best, completed the story, and didn't need sequels.

@Noogah Like Oneironaut said, I've seen way worse stuff on this forum. Heck, I see worse stuff on the news. If you can't stomach the Matrix, you might as well go blind and deaf, because you're going to have a tough time in the real world.

If Marvo says the second film has a sex scene then the first film isn't tame? wtf is wrong with you, everybody has told you that the first film is fine, there's no sex and it's no more violent than Eagles dropping boulders on orcs or talking Lions eating people's faces off.

In other news, people have sex. Do you find it offensive that you were conceived? What's wrong with sex in fiction; is there something wrong with sex in reality? You'll find plenty of people get raped in the Bible, why isn't that obscene?

Well, I don't have a problem with using the bathroom. And, if a book says, "Gabe got up and used the bathroom" then I am perfectly fine with it.

But if a movie showed somone sitting on the toilet pooing/peeing, I would be thoroughly disgusted.

Plus, I'd bet you a bunch of money that whoever they were weren't married to each other, and I believe you know where I stand on that issue.

I thought that such a scene was also in the first film, but apparently I misunderstood. So, you can cool down now. No need to blow a gascket.

In the end though, I just don't watch R rated films. Yeah, reality has lots of garbage in it, but I watch movies/read books to escape garbage, not get an extra dose of it. There are plenty of good non R rated movies out there, so I don't feel like I'm missing out on much.

Thanks for the answers Xei and Oneironaut.

Here you don't have to rent it cause this is easily the best scene.
