      Point and click adventure games

Does anyone like point and click games? I've been finding myself attracted to them more and more lately. I found a really cool looking one called Machinarium, and I'm considering buying it. It's got that whole steampunk feel to it. I've also bought the iphone port of Monkey Island though I haven't played it yet. And I've played a bunch of flash ones like the Gateway series. Can anyone recommend some?

I highly recommend Botanicula. It's from the same developers that made Machinarium. If you like more games from them, I'd check out the current Humble Indie Bundle. Unfortunately I can't post you links however, because I don't have the required post count (It's a google search away anyway).

If you enjoy larger scale exploration based point & click games, the myst series is a good one. It's best played through with realMYST, riven, myst 3: exile, myst 4: revelation, uru, myst 5: end of ages. Its focus is on the puzzles presented on each of the places you visit, each unique with its own style of puzzles.

Botanicula is a point and click yes, though more like "click everything you see until you stumble on the right solution" than any actual puzzles. That's what it's aiming for and what it does well, but it's worth noting.

Machinarium was a combination of that and puzzles. Its puzzles made sense, so you don't need to frantically click to solve them. It's a good game, yes.

Judging from the above comments, seems like Machinarium is a game worth buying.

But gah, I've got no credit card or paypal.

Played Machinarium. It was really good, but kind of short. I got the humble bundle after but haven't played botanicula yet. I've heard good things about Mystery but haven't had the chance to look into it, I'll check it out. I heard there was a PSP remake, so I might get that.

Also, the ending to Machinarium was kind of unsatisfying. I was expecting sweet revenge on those guys. >w<

You are right, I should've mentioned that. I think it's also worth mentioning that the game isn't that long either (I beat it in around 3 hours).

Btw what type of puzzles is Myst featuring? I know it's one of the classics, but I'm always a bit doubtful when I see it on GoG.

The myst series places emphasis on places and enviromental puzzles. To progress, you need to complete something in the environment to continue to the next location or figure out a key piece of information. They mostly feature freedom of movement though. You can complete the puzzles in most of the places in the order you want and not be stuck on a single one. In fact, the first part of figuring out a puzzle is figuring out which parts of the environment around you belong to that puzzle, if they belong to a puzzle at all. It's really just figuring out what is going on at your location and then utilizing that information to figure out even more.

The series is also not inventory based. There are no inventory based puzzles, and any inventory item is just for convenience. So it's not going to be figuring out how to create tools out of your items, either. I think that's a good thing, considering how obscure that kind of puzzles usually are.
