This is what bothered me most about it. I enjoyed it as a flick, but it's not as deep and thought-provoking as I would have liked, especially from Nolan.

Overall it's one of the better films about dreaming that I've seen, but then again, I haven't seen a huge number of films about dreaming. It's more of a joyride/heist film than a contemplative piece.

Eternal Sunshine is a similar film, but I thought it was better in every respect. Except action, of course; but even then Inception only had one interesting action scene with the schwoopy-loopy gravity... and even that wasn't amazing. They could have had tonnes of fun with impossible events, strange loops, and crazy physics. But nope.

It was fun as a movie but not as a dream movie. Yes there was some good dialoge in it like the underground dream people, like TheObserver says. Other than that it has nothing to do with dreaming.
      - they use the dreams wrong
      - no reality checks (real ones)
      - dream in a dream? (fun concept but slowing time... really? i mean dream time is like normal.. could have used just that)
      - DC don't always help you (not at all, unless you will them to)

Other dream movies and some i liked way more

      - shutterisland (not really a dream movie but.. you know)

      - requiem for a dream (i think)
      - vanilla sky
      - total recall (original one)(one of my fav all time movies. This one really plays with the 'real' not real' theme)
      - waking life (a bit to much but very interesting dialoge)
      - matrix
      - existenz (only for some)

I think Inception is a brilliant movie and it is one of the reasons I started learning about Lucid Dreaming (it is the initial thing which sparked the thought process of actually being able to control a dream). However, despite how amazing the film seems to be, it is responsible for many misconceptions about Lucid Dreaming which could be seen as a down-side.
