Heh. I do hope Sony manage to maintain their lead on the games console market. Anyone is better at the top than Microsoft, but I fear the PS3 may have come too little (or much&#33 - too late.

Unless you think of the PS3 as "replacing" the 360 in the sense the N64 replaced the SNES.

Unfortunately Halo's on Xbox and I can't say no to Halo.

Indeed. Some people have floated the theory that the PS3 and some of its more ludicrous things (i.e. the massive loss Sony is making on them and so forth) is because Sony is making a last ditch attempt to get a format with a foothold on the market. If they could get Blu-ray (oh look, it doesn't have a vowel, gotta get me one of those&#33 in the market as a dominant format it would more than make up for the money they're losing now. The PS3 could be a vehicle for that.

I don't know if I believe this Sony's strategy - it doesn't answer all questions - but it sounds quite plausible. Sony is kinda, uh, spent, and I wouldn't it past time. Sony has a loyal fanbase, though, look at Japan, so hey, it might work.

Still, the blu-ray and HD-DVD feud reeks of "who gives a crap" to me. I know I don't really care about either format, and I know that the world probably isn't ready for their $500 god-knows-what HD-DVD/Blu-Ray burners, no matter how much data you can store on them.

Believe it or not, I don't like Halo, lol.

I can't wait for Lair to come out on PS3 and I love Resistance: Fall of Man ^^

      I can.

      no.

seriously though, I'm waiting a year before I get either PS3 or Wii. They just simply dont have thier full potential out right now so its hard to judge. Probably won't get the 360 ever though. Theres no point. A good computer can play pretty much anything it could 0.o.

oh, and lookie at this: WiiCade Its a site that contains flash games that can be played on the Wii. (in other words mouse games) The really great thing - I think - about this site however is that the creator actually will respect the people who author the games. (in contrast to somewhere like ebaums which thrives on stolen content) I think I might make a game for the site =P

Anyways, you'll be able to go onto that site with your Wii once the Opera browser comes out for it which (last time I checked) is supposed to happen by the new year. Free internet games for all on your TV screen with a pointy clicky thing! woo! XD

Lol, I agree, I dont get why people like Halo so much. It was a pretty cool concept before everyone else did it, before it was even released, but it came out on PC anyway, so no point buying an Xbox to play it even then.

Ima check out that site, got my Wii preordered for before christmas now too!!!

People like Halo because it is a great game. It might not be your type of game, but to be honest, that's probably because you never bothered to get into it. There's a reason why over 40,000 hours of Halo 1+2 is played each day around the world.

Halo on the computer is a different experience because you need a great computer to run it, and it will still lag like crazy, especially if they're going to try to make Halo 3 for the PC on par with the 360's.

That said, I probably won't get a 360, but I will find someone who has one to play Halo 3 as soon as it comes out.

there are better FPS games out there. Trust me =P

The real reason Halo hit so well was because it was a good game and got right in a lil gaming niche that shot it up like a rocket.

for example: just try the UT 2004 Demo I dare you =P (I think it has online play, if it doesn't have online play... forget it XD)

Oh, and the reason I never got addicted to Halo...

Too repeditive... really..... basic control scheme... forward, backward, left, right, jump, shoot..... basic game types... mainly just slight alterations off clasic deathmatch... last but definatly the thing I didn't like the most: the power of some weapons... seriously half the game you're trying to get the uber-H4x weapon on the map so you can pwn everyone in one hit. Yes, they do all have their weaknesses but the weapons are still totally unbalenced. This results in the same thing happening every game, the same weapons and generally the same tactics being deployed. I like a game where everything is more balenced which gives players countless new paths to use to defeat their enimies. You will often find in a balenced game that you will be attacked in plenty of differnt ways which'll keep you on your toes.

Ya... I could go on for ages XD

To me Halo seems to attract the sort of people who think in heiarchys. me>you>him. When they get their hands on the rocket launcher they feel empowered to blast everyone away in one shot. Then, when the opponent has the rockets its like david and goliath. You must undercut the person of most power. I think accidently tapping into this is what caused its fame.

discuss (cause I know you will anyways =P)

I just liked Halo anyways. The controls were basic and not revolutionary by any means, but the implementation was fluid. That, and they brought it to the right market. PC shooters are fun, but they're not the same as console shooters. Other console shooters just didn't quite match up to Halo. Whether it was a lacking campaign, or incomparable multiplayer, they just weren't as good of a package overall.

      Nah, I mean, I can see why people liked them to start off with, but there are so many better FPS games out now, that it seems a bit antiquated. I mean, you get all the vehicles, drama and awesome online play, x 100 in the battlefield series&#33;

Oh well, everyone has their own opinion.

In general I think the shield helped out with Halo 2 a lot, it&#39;s an unique health system. Plus the controls are so smooth and fluid. Battlefield and Call of Duty are great games too, so is Gears of War. I hated UT 2004.

The rocket launcher/sword thing can get annoying, but if you&#39;re good you can kill the person and steal it easier. Although you won&#39;t have that problem in most online games because they&#39;re set up to exclude them. But you&#39;re right about one thing, in games where there are super weapons like that it does build a sort of mental hierarchy. However, there&#39;s always a counter any weapon so most of the good players know better.

Haha, you guys should see the Halo community, it is bigger than you could possibly imagine. Check out halo.bungie.org.

It doesn&#39;t matter if it has a basic control scheme, or any of that stuff - what bought me was the never-before-seen storyline. It&#39;s just so captivating; the Flood was such an unexpected and horrifying twist it knocked you off your feet and kept you playing because you wanted to see what happened.

But, before I start rambling, I&#39;ll get back on topic.

      <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE("O")</div>
Because, honestly, aside from the price tag, what is there to really complain about, so far?[/b]
I heard that many games from the PS2 weren&#39;t working on the PS3, which was a big screwup. I also know that instead of the 4 million consoles Sony promised on launch, they only produced 400,000. I&#39;ve had some fun with the Sony systems, but the only game I ever really liked on it was Grand Theft Auto, and you can find that on the
      Xbox now.

Let the people have their PS3, I have a 360 waiting for me.

I must say, I am in love with our PS3. When we first opened it, its shine was so--so--sexy. Ugh, I love it&#33; lol. I like the 360, but I&#39;ve found something better in my life. Something that makes me feel--special... lol

I like Halo, but I&#39;m by no means a big fan. Basic controls and same old gamplay types suit me just fine when they&#39;re fun. It doesn&#39;t have to be new to be fun, but I guess that&#39;s just the classic gamer side of me. But I&#39;ll agree with you about the balancing issues. Although vehicles are fun, they&#39;re also really annoying. I&#39;m sure I&#39;m not the only one who thinks that rocket launchers are more than a little cheap, too.

So the 360 and the Wii both are winning on profits even if PS3 sells moderately well.

Since Sony is taking such a hit as it is, you have to wonder if they will ever drop the price. They could drop it if they develop cheaper or more efficient ways to produce the PS3, or they could leave the price the same and just take less of a loss on each unit.

      Panasonic tried to do the same thing with the 3DO by coupling superior graphics with a whole bunch of other shit, trying to be the new innovation in home entertainment of various media. A great idea, in theory, but a game system (to the minds of the people) is still, basically, a game system.       I&#39;m really sick of this. Since when did our game consoles need to have all this DVD/JPEG/PSP/CD/NEDM/MP3/VCR/HD DVD/Media Center crap? Back in my day, all video game consoles were grey and only played video games&#33; That&#39;s the way it was and we liked it&#33;

That&#39;s true. When the 360 came out there were so many complaints about backwards compatibility issues for various Xbox games, including Halo 1+2. Only after some serious patching were they able to salvage the trust of the gamers.
