Finally!! The title has been released for the the 7th and final book!

...it sounds creepy. J.K. Rowling had better not kill off Harry!

I've just found out, about 10 minutes ago . Already messaged all my Harry Potter friends.

I sure hope The Deathly Hallows is going to be better than The Half-Blood Prince... that was sort of a dissapointment...

The first was still the best, IMHO. I've read each with my son as they have been released. There was a certain wonder in that first book that just hasn't been touched since. That was the genius of it... it certainly wasn't a tightly knit plot or anything like that - it was the introduction of the characters in such a powerfully personal way.

Her strength isn't really in her storytelling... it is in her ability to convey the emotions of her characters.

I'll be buying it.

I'm not reading them anymore. I mean killing Dumbledore, come on! That woman has lost it. She kills Dumbledore AND Sirrius Black. It'll be Harry, Ron and Hermione next. Mark my words, she'll keep on killing until there are no characters left. Then she'll make new ones. Then she'll kill them. It's too depressing. I just read Fight Club and that's a happy feel good book by comparrison.

HAY GUYS, GUESS WHAT?
Harry dies in the next one. Really. I know everyone said that when every other book was announced, but this time he really does!

I stopped reading after I got a few pages into the first book. It was boring.

Never read any of the books, and I've only seen pieces of maybe two of the movies.
I did read earlier today, though, that the author recently had her very first dream that she was in the Harry Potter world. (Burns, looks like you've got some bragging rights, haha.) I was looking for the article again, to post it, but it looks like it's been replaced with the article covering the naming of the new book. I thought it was pretty interesting, though. She was saying how she was simultaneously the Narrator and Harry. As Harry, she was looking for some sort of magical object but, at the same time, as the Narrator, she already knew where it was, or something like that.

Yeah, she was looking for a Horcrux as Harry, and the narrator knew it was hidden in a fireplace, but Harry didn't so she was pretending that she (as Harry) didn't know where it was, looking everywhere but the place it was while simultaneously trying to get people to say the lines she knew they were supposed to.
I read it on her website earlier while trying to verify if the title all the Digg nuts were posting was accurate. Pretty cool stuff!

Haha - but her very first dream in the Harry Potter world?? God, I can't even count how many HP dreams I've had.

Speculations:
• From how the HBP ended, I kinda have a feeling that Malfoy is going to turn to the good side in this one...
• Snape will either get killed off or he'll end up killing everyone else off
• Ron and Hermione are an item (obviously)
• Harry and Ginny are like exact replicas of Harry's parents, James and Lily

Ron and Hermione had better get together. It's about freakin' time.
And, provided Harry doesn't get killed off, he'd better get with Ginny.
In other news,
-Harry had better not ditch out on the whole school thing. That'd bug me.
-Percy needs to bite the dust. BAD. I don't want some sappy make-up with his family with him admitting he was wrong or getting humbled, I want him dead. I mean, the masses are crying out for Weasley blood, and he's the most expendable/least cool.
-Fred and George had better keep up their shenanigans. The books would be really disappointing without them. Their flight from the school in the fifth book is my single favorite scene EVER, and I'm really hoping Rowling will up the ante and make a scene with even MORE Fred & George hilarity.

Yeah seriously! Well, he'd have to go back to the Dursley's until his birthday, because he's got exactly 17 years protection from Voldemort. After that, who knows? The Burrow? Come on, what about Quidditch??

Haha, you're right - they will probably make him come crawling back, and he redeems himself in the end. or some other crap.

Don't make me hurt you.
The movies suck. HARD.
The books are SOOOO much better. (as always)
I watched the first three Harry Potter movies, hoping (in vain) that they would at least somewhat live up to the book's greatness. No luck. I've seen bits of the fourth, but I can't watch it the whole way through because of swelling anger within me. I mean, Dumbledore was SO much cooler in the books. He was all hyper, and always good for a laugh. In the movies, he just acts old and lethargic, and even when they include some of his somewhat comical lines, the actors make them sound dry and boring. Seriously, Rowling chose his name because it means "Bumblebee" and she wanted him to portray that kind of energy and excitement, but the movies just steamroll that down and make him a boring old man.

UGH.

EDIT: And don't even get me started on how LOUSY the twins are in the movies!

Isn't it obvious that Cho Chang is actually the evil mastermind (i.e. Voldemort) behind all of this in disguise?

Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!

Yes, that book will be mine... hopefully I'm not in Russia at the time or I'll have to have someone send it to me. I heard the books don't have the same effect in Russian as in English They don't have an "h" sound, so all the h's are changed to g's. "Gary Potter..."

Nah..... it's Mrs. Weasley.

EDIT: Oh, and yes, I've had a few HP dreams as well. I've found that at least for me it's flippin' impossible to have a dream involving my own characters. Sure I'm not a full-time writer, but they just never seem to show up

It's funny you should mention that.
I've been writing stories and RPing original characters for about 11 years now. I've never had ONE freakin dream about my own characters, no matter how hard I've tried to incubate them.

Strange how that works, isn't it?

I'll be reading it, though yeah, HBP was quite a dissapointment. Reminded me of shitty, shitty fan fiction more than anything else, especially with the pairings.

In truth Harry Potter is something that would have been better in 4-5 books instead of 7. Sure they've become darker, but something in the creative writing process has gone dry. Or maybe that innocent, "let's solve a mystery, have mishaps in classes, find the bad guy" story writing, combined with enjoyable character interaction was more of what made Harry Potter so great (at least for me). But that would have gotten boring. I really don't know sometimes.

my feeling is the only reason it would have been better in 4-5 books is that its just so damn hard to make something feel fresh, new, and creative for so many pages. ive read 1-5 at least twice each and 6 once, and im planning on reading them all again just before i read the seventh for the first time. i find that, in doing that, the excitement carries over to each book and the action is seamless, so maybe it made the 6th book a lot more enjoyable for me than other people have commented (i did the same thing as books 4 and 5 came out). if anyone else did that too and was still disappointed by the 6th, then who knows. in fact, i find the first book oddly boring now, probably partly because i've read it so many times, but also probably because the "threat" or main danger in the first one seems dry and straightforward now, almost like a "kids" version of what's to come. not knocking the first book at all, i cherish it, just find it a harder read nowadays. and in an odd, gut-wrenching, terrible way i'm glad dumbledore died...now we'll see what everyone, including harry and draco, is really made of. no dumbledore to swoop in and save the day. the cards are dealt, chips are down, and shit's gonna hit the fan, i wouldnt miss the last book for the world.

and dont even get me started on the movies. suffice it to say, compared to the books, they are boring, uninspired, and just plain bad. if you didn't read the books before watching the movies, you disserviced yourself immensely.

on a side note, anyone ever tried to use the killing curse in a HP dream? mine never work, DCs just laugh at me even when I send 10 in a row their way. maybe i'm not putting my will into it or something.

Uuuh Dickhead, if you didn't know that yet, you don't go on the internet often, do you?
It's been like everywhere since the day the book came out.

Also, anyone care to refresh my memory of what was up with Percy? I've read all the books so far, but I can't seem to remember..

I read in an article in a national paper the other day that Rowling said she was killing off two main characters in this book. My bet is it's Harry and Voldemort.

Imagine how horrible it'd be if J.K. Rowling would die before the seventh book was completed. THE HARRY POTTER SAGA WOULD NEVER BE FINISHED!

*ahem*
On a more serious note, yeah, as a kid, the books were alright, but really, I seem to be losing interest in them. They just seem dry now.

I'm still mad at her for killing off Sirius AND Dumbledore. If she kills Harry though...I think there will be an all out revolution on the woman...I don't think she could get away with that. Voldemort...yeah. Snape? To be honest...even after everything that's happened I'm still not certain what side he's REALLY on. There's alot that needs to be answered in this last book! It had better deliver!

I watched the movies and loved them...then I got into the books. The books are amazing, and the movies are awesome on their own, but you can't go comparing them to the books...everyone knows that.

Anyway, I can't get enough. I can't wait for the next book to come out and for the Order of the Phoenix to premier!

Edit: Oh and I agree that Harry and Ginny are Lily & James replicas

I do this too - with each new book that comes out, I read all of them again beforehand, leading up to it, and timed out precisely so I can pick up with the newest book.

Also with the movies, I'll watch all the previous movies again just before the newest one premieres. My sister and I have a tradition of going together to see the HP movies on the night of release at the theater, at one of the latest showing times to avoid all the annoying kids. But as everyone agrees, the movies can't hold a candle to the books - not even a fair comparison.
