      Wii vs. Gamecube

Right now I have a Nintendo 64, an it's the only system I have ever had. I really want to get up to date, but the Wii doesn't really apeal to me that much. I don't really like the idead of the motion sensor thing. I just want to get a game that I can play with a regular controller. Nintendo is definitley my favorite platform (...or whatever you call it) because they have tons of original characters and games like Mario, Zelda, Samus, Fox, F-Zero, etc. So..... I decided to buy a Gamecube. The games I plan on getting are:

Mortal Kombat: Deception I'm a huge MK fan! This is definitely my first choice.
Super Smash Melee How can you not get this game for the Gamecube?!
Mario Kart: Double Dash Another must have for the Gamecube.
F-Zero GX Big fan of F-Zero X for N64, this looks like an awesome game.

So basically the point of this thread is to discuss which system you think is better. Also, you can reccomend games for either system

      PLEASE READ
If you don't have, or haven't played both systems, please don't tell me which one is better. However, if you have played one of them, feel free to talk about whether it was cool or not.

      Isn't the Wii backwards compatible?

Yes. You can play Game cube games on a Wii but not vice versa. So you could have had the best of both worlds. Although having said that, you can pick up a used Gamecube for about £20 now so it hardly matters.

I have both systems, get Twilight Princess and Wind Waker for GC. Both really good games. Also Resident Evil 4 is apparently really good. Metroid Prime Hunters 2. Super Mario Sunshine. Soul Caliber 2 (if you like beat 'em ups).

At the moment I would say that a Gamecube is better than a Wii, purely because there is a lack of good games on the Wii. There are a few good 'uns but a lot of sub-standard ones.

PS2!!!, but that isn't one of the options. I suggest the wii because It seems way more active and fun. But they still haven't made a good sword fightin game yet. but yah wii and then both zelda games definitely!

I heard Mario Sunshine was really cool from a friend. I'm getting a Gamecube for now, then once the prices go down and the Wii gets some good games out there, I'll buy that. Plus, then I'll have time to get some good games for the GC so that I can also play them on the Wii when I buy it.

As far as games go, does anyone have F-Zero GT? I love the F-Zero X for the N64 (partly because of the awesome soundtrack). Are there any MK fans on here? I plan on getting Deception as my first pick for the GC, then I'll probably end up geting Deadly Alliance too.

EDIT: I have heard sooo much about the Zelda series, but I have never played it!!! I am big fan of Nintendo and all of their classic characters, but for some reason I have never got aroung to playing it. Which Zelda game do you reccomend me getting?

The Wii is backward compatible!!! It can also play SNES, NES, Sega Genesis(?), and TG16 (PC Engine) games!
While there is a lower class, I am in it.

Since you have an N64, you should really get Ocarina of Time, it's one of the best Zelda games out there, and many consider it the best video game ever made.

I agree with Serith too. Ocarina of Time is the best game out for the Nintendo 64. Twilight Princess for the Wii wasn't nearly as good as Ocarina of Time.

Its not the best game ever made though, Symphony of the Night for the PlayStation is in my opinion.

Pfft. I'm a nintendo fangirl and even I think the gamecube was a flop. Sure there were some great games - Smash Bros Melee, RE 4, Metroid Prime - but there were also some big disappointments. Wind Waker didn't appeal to me like many of the other Zelda titles have (I still have nightmares about sailing), and Mario Sunshine was nowhere near the level of quality of Super Mario 64. F-Zero GX isn't bad, but the soundtrack is kind of lame compared to F-Zero X.

On the other hand, the Wii is looking promising. Currently, the only really great game available is Twilight Princess (which is also on the GCN), but Smash Bros Brawl looks fantastic, and Super Mario Galaxy is supposed to be revolutionary (pun only slightly intended). I'm a little concerned for Metroid Prime: 3 (number 2 was meh-ish, and Hunters for the DS was just bad), but it could still turn out good.

Overall, I'd say save up for the Wii. As others have said, it works with GCN games, and should have loads of good titles in the future... which is more than can be said of the gamecube.

Jeez, you left getting a gamecube pretty late. I've had one for several years now, pretty much since launch. The problem is, I've had trouble getting games for it since the wii came out. I suppose, if you can find a way around that, I would get the cube... and the Wii really isn't that special in my opinion. I really don't like the motion sensitivity at all. However, I heard something about traditional controllers for the wii... an add-on, or something, to give you the retro gamecube style controllers.

You can't own a cube without Zelda: Wind Waker. Seriously. That's worth buying a gamecube by itself.
Other than that, Double Dash and Smash bros are pretty good.

I got F-Zero GX and Mortal Kombat: Deception! F-Zero GX is amazing!! The graphics and the track design is awesome. The story mode gets hard quick. I'm on the 3rd level and probably will be there for a long time . Anyways, the soundtrack is no match compared to F-Zero X (best video game soundtrack of all time) but it has some nice music. Once I beat the emerald cup on standard, I'll unlock the Dimond cup!!! What I'm looking forward to the most is getting that one Boss guy unlocked . That guy has the sickest racer ever!

On to Mortal Kombat: Deception.... I'm so glad that I have the gamecube version, because it lets you play as Goro and Shao Kahn unlike the PS2 and Xbox. I have heard so much crap about the Konquest mode, but was actually suprised that it's really fun The chess mode and puzzle modes are both really fun, and are an easy way to pick up a bunch of koins.
As far as the regular kombat mode goes, I love that they brought back the tradditional upper-cut moves and took out that annoying impaling move. The gamecube controller actually works quite nicely with the game.

Anyways, I'm getting Double Dash in the mail and am looking forward to that as well.

There are plug-ins in the back of the Wii for gamecube controllers. I've used them before and they work just fine.

And Wii Sports can be quite fun anyway. If you're looking for a workout, Wii boxing is the way to go! And Wii Bowling can be a real ego-booster! (And going back to regular bowling can be a real ego-breaker...)

I think the Wii was a great idea however the novalty was bound to wear off eventually, my friend's brother got himself a Wii and was all excited, now he doesn't even play it because he thinks it got a bit boring and the same. The gamecube may of had its disappointments but it had some great games, i'm probably going to complete Metroid Prime 2 today, its been a while.

The Wii is crap for playing GameCube games! I tell you, a normal cube to put your disks in (Tech Sex) in better than using a big giant complex thing! It's like choosing a Time Lord to be your girlfriend when you can get a human? Get what I mean?
