      Thumbs up Your Favorite Music!

I'm curous what my fellow forum dweller's favorite music is. Or maybe a favorite song. My favorite band is called Nightwish. They are a symphonic metal band, and make good music. Whats your favorite band?

I like lots of genres of rock.

Classic Rock - Aerosmith, Queen, Rolling Stones, Kiss, Van Halen

Metal - Metallica, Iron Maiden, Dragonforce

      80's - Journey, Guns N Roses, Scorpions

Other - Rage Against the Machine

Fav. Song - hmm... It's a tie between Welcome to the Jungle by GNR and One by Metallica.

Favorite Genres are Rap, and Rock from the 60's and 70's.

Favorite song would be the excellent remix of Bombs over Baghdad by Outkast.

A short list of bands and artists that I listen to a lot would have Eric Clapton, Weezer, Pantera, Children of Bodom, Daft Punk, Lou Reed, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Bad Religion, Opeth, Primus and oh so many more.
I'll give anything a chance, but by and large indie, and post hardcore are genres that get no love.

Classic Rock and good ol' punk (not pop-punk like green-day, blink 182 and all the bands that sound like them...they suck )

Fuck what you say, Dookie was and still is an amazing album. I remember people having that on cassette at school. Even American Idiot also had a few good songs, people just love to hate the mainstream. Blink 182 was also good back in grade 8, and gets some love for being anthemic to us back in the day, but I'll agree they got shitty, and their music doesn't hold up today.

The Beatles are good, and I appreciate them more than I like them. But I can see why some people hate them because there are ten times as many people who act like they have a raging hard on for them, even if they don't actually listen to them outside the radio. Like I said before, people love to hate the mainstream.

Also, Mes Tarrant, you win either way.

I don't know anyone who doesn't like songs like Longview, When I Come Around, and Basket Case just to name hits off Dookie alone. Even Nimrod had a handful of great songs like Hitchin' a Ride and Good Riddance (before it got used by every graduation after its release). I put them in the same group as the Offspring, amazing up until Americana, then not so much. Pop punk wasn't so bad in the early to mid 90's.
What punk bands do you listen to anyway?

      ^ I don't like Green Day...

At home I've pretty much abandoned by media library in favour of a radio station that plays Industrial Electronica, something I don't have much of. A lot of it is German, of which I know a few words.

The station in particular is RantRadio Industrial.

I just don't like pop-punk is all. Some that I have been listening to a lot are Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, Misfits, Ramones, and the Nobodys (really obscure band though.)

Just to keep on topic I also like old ragtime and opera.

Dead Kennedys, The Misfits, and Black Flag are all great bands, but lets not pretend the Ramones aren't pop punk. People have even lumped them into the power pop genre, they just weren't very tight.
I'm totally beating a dead horse, and I realize it, but it is on topic. Either way, I miss singing in movies. Disney had some killer songs in their movies back in the day, and overall some of my favorite songs are from Disney movies and musicals like Les Mis (and Cannibal! The Musical).

Yes! I enjoy listening to dream theater too. I really like the melodies and the not-so-heavy mood they have even though they have huge drumsets and such. The melodies are great and I wish I could write such good songs too one day. My favourite songs are Overture 1282, Metropolis Pt. 1, Steam of Consciousness and The Ytse Jam (usually in this order). I also like rock classics like Guns N' Roses, Queen, Pink Floyd, Michael Jackson and Metallica.

At the other end I fancy electronic music. Jean Michael Jarre and Mike Oldfield are close to my heart. I love the synth solos of Jarre and the mood and the atmosphere of Mike Oldfield's songs. From Jarre, my favourite songs are propably the Industrial Revolution songs. I haven't heard very much from Mike Oldfield but I really enjoyed Crises.

I love Mr. Bungle! Haven't listened to any other of Patton's bands, though.

I have an open mind about music, but my favorite is ska mostly and stuff like prog rock/psychedelic rock. A lot of rock falls into my collection (mostly "classic" rock). Anything from 2000 - present I'm not usually a big fan of. Doesn't mean there's still gems nowadays.

      Yeah

      Yeah

I'd recommend Fantomas over the others.

Fantomas is very "Disco Volante"; if you've heard that album.
