Definately got past that game when I was in grade 5, and I didn't even like it much then.

I mean, look what it does to your spelling.

Fortunately I never have played that game.

There are so much better free MMORPG's out there.

After wasting many valuable years in the realm of MMORPGing I avoid them like the plague.

I used to play it all the time when I was in 7th grade because my other friends played it as well. I still have my account and whenever I log in it's been like 25 days since the last time I logged in. I just don't play it anymore. My level is in the 40s or higher, I forgot. I'm surprised with it now since everything has changed three years later.

Thank god I never played it. I saw nothing in it, nothing at all. It just seems so unbelievably pointless to me.

The game that nearly put me off MMORPGs... incessant grinding is NOT a good thing

And as a consequence to me becoming completely intolerant of any form of grinding, I can't even play WoW... Furthest I've got is level 31 before I just couldn't take it anymore.

However, there is hope... Age Of Conan: Hyborian Adventures is promising to be a grind-free MMO... even with crafting and resource collecting (which you progress through them with quests, as opposed to grinding up the skill level). Now THAT will probably get me into MMOs again.

I think the grinding thing is done for a reason. Research shows repetitive tasks that yield rewards activate something positive in the brain. Hence it contributes to the addiction of MMORPGs.

Don't get me wrong though... I don't like grinding either.

A friend of mine got me into this a while back. I think I got upto level 77 or something. I found it boring and repetitive in the end I just gave up.

Sad but true. When I've spent an hour killing the same monsters and have amounted 15 gold weapons, I feel happy.

Used to play runescape, but there are so much better MMOs out there... since about Christmas though, I've given up gaming altogether. So yeah, I've been clean for about 2 months

Don't get me wrong though... I don't like grinding either.
I get more satisfaction from completing a long, difficult quest, or winning in a PvP battle/raid/etc... grinding for me just ruins the appeal of a MMORPG.

For example... why I like objective-based online shooters. Using Day Of Defeat: Source as the game of choice, I find that unlike Counterstrike, the combat is more dynamic, less repetitive, and rewards tactical thinking. You don't have to be a great player killer to be good at it, just as long as you can secure and capture the objectives.

Second example... an rpg I like a lot. Oblivion... it has a good system where you level up as you go along, may not be a perfect system (still vunerable to grinding), but due to the way the game progresses, that's not an issue. I like how there's plenty of quests to do, and plenty of places to explore. Overall, it encourages the type of gameplay I enjoy.

Now... why can't similar attributes be included into MMORPGs? Not everyone likes grinding, and there are plenty of other ways to reward a player for his hard work. If people want to grind, fine, but just don't make it an important part of the game, or 'something you have to do to get [insert item or coin here]'... otherwise it just destroys the game.

The last time I logged into Runescape, I was in some town where everyone was like "sex plz" and "15 yr old gurl loking 4 sum fun"... I think some of my brain cells died just then. Haven't been back since.

Excuse me while I mourn the English language...

MMORPGs -- the death of language arts as we know them. Schools have no chance anymore.

I play a lot of games, and have played through MMOs and various online games, and yet my english is perfectly fine.

However, let me join you in the mourning over the destruction of the english language... and to think I've seen worse.

The MMORPG I used to play is/was called NexusTK (Kingdom of the winds). Believe it or not there is a facet of people who roleplay and, as a result, display correct spelling. Unfortunately a new company has taken over and sped the decline of roleplay.

If any of you play NexusTK please tell me. It'd be worth reactivating the account for someone at Dreamviews.

Bah! It was horribly flawed anyways. Still...I guess I'll miss the days when lolcat wasn't in the dictionary.

Runescape? A long, long time ago in a Grade far, far away...

Aye, I'm an RPer myself but RP communities are simply hopeless in the long run on commercial MMORPGs. Profits outweigh effective measures. The companies won't take measures against those that defy such non-critical rules. Well, non-critical in the eyes of all those but RPers themselves.

It's impossible for the huge companies running the games to police the millions of players in the game. As a result, even when we roleplayers have our own realms set aside for us, we still end up overrun with those that don't. And, obviously, large companies don't care about rules, they just care about profits. So in the end, the only people that ever get any actions taken against them are those that hack the game or show serious harassment against players.

      Well said.

You should know though that this particular game has always had an average of 500-1000 players online at a time. The small community (everyone knowing everyone else) helps fight the death of roleplay. It's still pretty bad though.
