      Airsoft

Anybody play it? I have a collection of at least 16 guns (2 broken). If you don't know what it is, there is a huge article about it on Wikipedia. Trust me, it is a good sport.

Played it for half a year. Bought an Echo 1 G36C with awesome FPS. Then I got tired of being pressured to out to games all the time, sold the gun and quit.

Was really fun while it lasted though.

I don't like it at all. All my friends would abuse the privilege of having one, and I have had to take it from them a number of times and unload the cartridge on their asses or even break the gun itself.

I have to disagree. I think it's a different sport all on it's own.

Paintball is far more extreme though. It feels like you're really getting shot at and the pain is far more intense.

I have bled while playing paint ball. The blood just squirts out! Thats why I stopped, it was a bit terrifying looking at you're finger which was squirting blood and you can't even bend it normally because its bruised like a prune.

Lol... reading this makes me think you never played airsoft, or got fed lies about it.

Trust me, some shots DO hurt as bad as paintball. I still have vivid memories of writhing in pain from some rogue shot to my arm. Never felt worse pain. (All in all pain factor is determined by the gun).

Airsoft guns not only look identical to the real thing, but when your holed up in a fort or surrounded in the forest with shots flying over your head than it's pretty much like getting shot at.

It's like paintball except there is no paint.

No. No sir. I've gotten shot point blank with both a paintball gun and an airsoft gun.

Airsoft are small air filled pellets. Much like b-b's.

Paintballs are exactly that. Balls of paint, about 10 times the size of a normal airsoft. They fire at probably 4 times the velocity. It hurts more.

What kind of crappy bullets have you been using? Airsoft is small, hard SOLID pellets (0.2g) travelling at aprox. 300 fps (depends on the gun). It hurts if you are hit on the right spot.

I pressed a FAMAS against my hand when I was younger (500 fps, upgraded gearbox), bled for 3 hours. Then I shot my wall, pellet is stuck in the wall to this day.

I believe you skimmed over the "all in all pain factor is determined by the gun" factor in my post.

You can buy the airsoft pistol at Walmart and cause non-existent damage.

Or you can buy the $1,300 gun online. Keep in mind the battery type and charged level also plays a factor.

Get shot with a flamethrower (or any gun 400 FPS+), then we'll talk.

Also, yes, I have been shot with paintball bullets. It hurts, but not much more than some memorable shots via airsoft. Small round hard objects have a much greater chance of punctuating skin. xP

That is true. Sometimes (not meaning anybody here), fanboys point out what is NOT true and repreat it. Like on the F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin forums, there is someone named }_50Ɔ{_|ñeا who argues every thread (and post) and backs up his opinions by just rephrasing or restating exactly what he just said. He backs up his arguement with only his opinion, no factual evidence or trying to put things out of context.

P.S. GestaltAlteration, is that Niko Belic in your avatar?

No, the remaining charge in the batter only affects rate of fire, not velocity. Since electric guns are essentially automatic spring guns, and since the spring will be just as compressed at half charge as it is at full, velocity won't be affected.

Even many low end spring guns can fire .2's at 200 FPS. I would fear for your safety (supposing that I cared about it) if you were being shot at with paintballs at 800 FPS. In reality, though, airsoft guns generally fire at a higher muzzle velocity than paintball guns. The reason is simply due to the weight differences in the ammunition. Lighter ammunition can be fired at higher velocities more safely. According to Wikipedia "Muzzle velocity above 300 feet per second (fps) is ruled unsafe in most commercial paintball fields". In airsoft, however, 400 FPS is pretty standard for a fully automatic rifle.

Sort of true. My M4, Steyr AUG, XM8, and AK-47 do have their velocities affected, but my P90, FAMAS, and G36 don't.

The only reason that would happen is if your gears are skipping teeth, which shouldn't be happening to so many of your guns.

I'm using LPEGs for most of them, and in them a weaker battery cocks the gears less. (This only happens at like 10% charge.)

I don't know much about LPEG's, but I should think that still could only be caused by skipped teeth. Any other electric gun which has a charge too low to power the motor enough to fully cock the piston simply won't be able to complete a firing cycle and just won't fire at all. It'd stop mid-cock and simply roll backwards to uncocked when you let go of the trigger. I guess that rolling back might cause enough compression to fire at a weaker velocity, but as long as the gun is cycling properly, even at low power, muzzle velocity shouldn't change.

It could also be a power conservation and lifetime feature.

I might even be inclined to believe that were we not talking about LPEG's.
