"Abandoning" Threads. What do you think?

Ok. I've already come to accept the fact that I'm notorious for this.

However, I don't really see the problem. It's something that always see people complaining about on forums, though. I mean, I can see if it's something that's just a useless thread, anyway. Too many of those just being thrown about can be pretty annoying. But a lot of times threads will be made just to share something someone thought was interesting, and little more than that. (Not to mention; many times I will either just forget about the thread, lose interest, or just can't think of something to reply with, at the time, and end up moving on to something else.)

So I'm curious, how do you feel about "abandoning threads?" Do you think that someone who makes a thread has a responsibility to progress it (In other words, are you one of those people that complains about threads being abandoned?), or does it not really matter to you? Are you one of those people that constantly abandons threads? If so; why?

Just interested in hearing some opinions.

I always felt that posting in a thread was something that one did because it made them happy. I always accept the possibility when I am posting TO someone that they may have already moved on.
If you are the starter of a thread, I think it is a general curtesy to guide it, somewhat..
However, if I had a really awesome idea for a thread, and I posted it, and everyone loved it, I have contributed even if I don't follow through. The forum is better WITH that thread there, even if I didn't raise it until death.

I never really considered that someone might be concerned with this, to be honest.

I say do whatever if it's a casual sort of thing, where one reply is enough. However, if discussing and having a back and forth, I would say it is polite to not leave until all you've said is said and all the responses dealt with. This never happens, so I also consider it acceptable to walk out with an announcement, such as "You all are fuccccccchsia morons, I'm leaving."
I am a thread abandoner usually, but sometimes I stick around for a tangle.
I don't usually think, therefore I mostly am not.

Likewise, you cant teach some one who looks for facts to have faith in the absence of facts.

Meh, virtually all of the threads I've made have been garbage, so I don't think it's much of an issue to anyone if I've abandon them. I don't think it's up to the OP to keep a thread moving unless the original post had to do with needing advice or help regarding something, in which case of course the OP should stick around. Otherwise, a thread's life is probably best determined by the interest given it by the community.

      I don't mind it.

I've abandoned quite a few threads in my day. Mostly, it's because I don't feel like there's anything to be gained from further discussion. The person isn't convincing me of anything. I'm not convincing them of anything. Any more argument would be nothing more than a struggle for dominance.
