Greatest Threat To World Peace: The United States of America

Over 12 years into the so-called “Global War on Terror,” the United States appears to be striking terror into the hearts of the rest of the world.

In their annual End of Year survey, Win/Gallup International found that the United States is considered the number one “greatest threat to peace in the world today” by people across the globe.

The poll of 67,806 respondents from 65 countries found that the U.S. won this dubious distinction by a landslide, as revealed in the chart below.

The BBC explains that the U.S. was deemed a threat by geopolitical allies as well as foes, including a significant portion of U.S. society.

Australia was fairly high on the list; just after Russia ... Australia! This was a poll to find the biggest threat to world peace?

What were they on?

It's a good bit less than 99%, but it's also more than 50%, but not necessarily for long. Because the retard factor is the problem, we need to work on the retard factor, not pull an armed rebellion against the government. I think there is good hope of enough retards waking up. Weariness with the two party system is getting stronger and stronger.

Exactly. I remember just recently reading a question on Reddit: Why don't Americans rise up against their government?

If we were truly capable of organizing an uprising, an uprising would no longer be necessary. The system in place already allows us to thwart corruption when we can organize to do so.

Please keep in mind that 25% of this country believes the sun revolves around the earth. These numbers are only slightly better in Europe. You're not going to get accuracy when you ask for people's opinions in bulk like this.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised, our current PM is a George Bush wannabe.

I recently read that we have even less control over our secret services than Americans do, which is a frightening thought when you think about it. Even the NSA has more checks and balances than our CSIS. And Canadians are much more apathetic than our Southern neighbours when it comes to politics - we've had it too good for too long and now people just assume everything is peachy keen. =/

A country is most vulnerable when things have been really good or really bad. When things have been great, the people take things for granted and get apathetic. When things have been terrible, the people get desperate. The whole West is living in vulnerable times now. I seriously wonder what is going to become of the West over the next 20 years. If the masses won't wake up and grow balls, we're in trouble. I think we're probably on the verge of a mass awakening. I really hope we are. We majorly need it.

Yeah, it's like a lightweight Dark Ages (hopefully on the verge of a Renaissance).

I was reading No Easy Walk to Freedom (Nelson Mandela) today and I think you might like it; it covers the sort of work that they had to do to bring down Apartheid and a fair bit of it (the community organizing, activism, etc) seems relevant to our concerns here in North America. It's not a long read, only 189 pages, but it paints a brilliant picture of the man that the news media went to great lengths to cover up or ignore when they covered his death.
