      Hello,

I am really, really curious if there are any Scientologists on the board reading this. I am really curious as to the war on psychology. I did not know about this till just recently. I had a lot of respect for Scientologists up until hearing this:

In 1966, Hubbard declared war on psychiatry, telling Scientologists "We want at least one bad mark on every psychiatrist in England, a murder, an assault, or a rape or more than one."

The Church claims that psychiatry was responsible for World War I,[95] the rise of Hitler and Stalin,[96] the decline in education standards in the United States,[97] the wars in Bosnia and Kosovo,[98] and the September 11 attacks.[99] The Church has not publicly presented any evidence supporting this view of psychiatry.

After the publication of Dianetics, the American Psychological Association advised its members against using Hubbard's psychotherapy techniques with their patients until their effectiveness could be proven. Because of this critique, Hubbard came to believe psychiatrists were behind a worldwide conspiracy to attack Scientology and create a "world government" run by psychiatrists on behalf of Soviet Russia:

He committed the Church to eradicating psychiatry in 1969, announcing "Our war has been forced to become 'To take over absolutely the field of mental healing on this planet in all forms.'"[102] The Church founded the Citizens Commission on Human Rights that same year as its primary vehicle for attacking psychiatry.

Around the same time, Hubbard claimed that psychiatrists were an ancient evil that had been a problem for billions of years. He cast them in the role of assisting Xenu's genocide of 75 million years ago. In a 1982 bulletin entitled "Pain and Sex", Hubbard declares that "pain and sex were the INVENTED TOOLS of degradation", having been devised eons ago by psychiatrists "who have been on the [time] track a long time and are the sole cause of decline in this universe."[103]

Celebrity Scientologists, notably Tom Cruise, have been extremely vocal in attacking the use of psychiatric medication.[104] Their position has attracted considerable criticism from psychiatrists, physicians, and mental health patients and advocates who cite numerous scientific studies showing benefit from psychiatry.
      [/b]
After reading this, I hoped that it was a vindictive kid writing this, but I inquired to the local Church of Scientologist - when I told them I was a psychology major, they hung up on me! All I said was, "I just had a few questions regarding the views of Scientology, you see, I am a psych major... *Click*" I was not looking for an argument whatsoever but simply clarification. I like to consider myself civil and respective enough to honor other people's views, but at least hear me out! Hear my curiousity - I just want to know if this is true, that is all.

I honestly gaped at this. So far, I have not seen any real justification for these statements! Based on the completely fallacious reasons and neglection of insurmountable evidence, I am afraid of losing my sincere respect for Scientologists - and I am not fond of making enemies. Furthermore, psychology has a plethora background to support how Scientology works (ie. effervesence).

      Someone... say it ain't so!

Okay: Here's why Scientologists don't like Psychologists.

According to Scientology, an intergalactic emperor called Xenu, about 75 million years ago packed the human race into spaceships that look like jet planes, flew them to earth, killed them all, then stacked their bodies around planes, blew the planes up and blew the bodies to smithereens. The Thetans, or souls, dispersed and later coagulated around the piles of dead bodies and somehow formed humanity. This Xenu intergalactic emperor guy was assisted by groups of evil autocratic psychologists and psychiatrists, who were conspiring to oppresses the masses under Xenu's governance by inventing pain and sex and making humans experience them to keep them under control - these intergalactic psychologists even now watch over us and make sure we still fuck and feel pain so that our Thetans, or souls, are trapped within our bodies.

      ...

      ...

      No, I'm not joking.

      Question

      Oh... oh...

PLEASE say you're not joking, Moonbeam, and that you're a Scientologist. That would be SO fun, I could have heaps of fun with that!

Sorry to disappoint you...but no. We used to have fun calling up the center and leading them on like we were interested. You know what they would do? They bought L. Ron's books from all the bookstores, then sold them back again, then bought them again, over and over. That's why Battlefield Earth says like "more than 10 million copies sold" on the cover.

If scientology was not so vindictive and mailcious it would be hilarious. It makes you wonder just how gullible people really are.

Yeah, I have a hard time believing that people... believe this crap? I mean... don't people's common-sense alarm-bells start ringing when a religion starts talking about intergalactic emperors and spaceships?

Well, how is it different from any other religion, really? Just made up stuff, just happens to have been made up in our lifetimes. 2000 years from now, who knows?

Scientology is like someone getting impaled by a gun that doesn't fire but have a stick pop out with a little flag that says 'bang!'. It should be funny, but it really, Really went wrong : /

It is official then, I simply can not continue to defend their outlandish beliefs while knowing that they blaim psychology for the crux of all evil.

Please, if there is a Scientologist reading this, justify these statements.

I will defend to the death your rights to express yourself. However, I can not defend to the death your right to threaten others, especially such a (empirically proven) beneficial field like psychology.

It bothers me to know that there are people out there that simply hate psychology with, ostensibly, no justification. (And no, saying, "They caused evil!" is not a justification.)

Well, I have inquired into the faculty of professors here and they came back to me with their responses from Scientologists:

Typical begging the question fallacy. I would hope people would have learned what this is from many other fanatic groups (ie. Racists. "Black people are bad because they are bad"). What have Scientologists said? Essentially, "Psychologists are evil because they are evil."

      Further elaboration:
Psychologists are evil because they invented pain, suffering, and evil. Psychologists are blamed for the invention of these ailments as a means to exploit people and benefit off of their sickness (which was invented by psychologists).

Sound valid..? Sure! If psychologists were GOD! Well guess what, apparently, psychologists were on board with Xenu when they let loose Thetans into our bodies - so they technically are a form of God.

What does it boil down to? Psychologists are evil because they invented it. Need I spell out the similarities in fallacious error we have seen this in the past?

      *Spits*

I'd say leave it alone. It's not a battle worth fighting, and there are so little scientologists in the world that it hardly makes a difference.

Most cults aren't big, but if they kill or mentally torture just One person, or more like Scientology, fighting it is justified I would say.

I can find you some lame OMG-conspiracy movies on the Internet that tell about some strange deaths of Scientology members. All those dead people happened to give away ALL their money to Scientology too.

The reason people's common sense doesn't really kick in and stop them is simple... The cult LEADERS are smart people... They introduce people to their methods one small, reasonable step at a time... People that just start out really only get a little base info about thetons and such... then as people become more active in it, they reveal that its a church... slowly working towards an insane person that will believe whatever is shoved down their throat. By the time they learn about xenu and alien ghosts, their minds are already warped... It does sadden me to think of all the normal people that BECAME crazies. What's worse, Children of scientologists... They grow up thinking all these are normal...

EDIT: hahaha... Chef, from south park, quit his job because of the scientology episode of south park... Speaking of which, the "history of Scientology" on that episode is really what they believe... You guys should check it out if you haven't seen it.

leave your thoughts on religion to the spirituality forum... I don't care to hear them... and BTW you can go to any store in America, pick up a bible and know all of our methods... your statement really didn't make sense.

Well since this whole thread is about religion, I guess I can keep talking about religion. And yes I know all about the methods in the Bible. Well not all about them but enough to know it's pretty twisted.

I agree with that, anything that involves torture of any kind is worth fighting. Brain washing and manipulative control are both a forms of torture and should not be tolerated by decent humanity.

Hell they don't like psychologists/therapists cause they bring to enlightenment, and fix the problem that cult's create. I know cause I grew up in a cult far worse than Scientology. *gets pissed off and wants to destroy cults* *gets over it*
