It isn't an universal law that every country has to do what the UN says. You had as much right to invade Iraq as you have to invade Cambodia, Pakistan, darfur, any fucked up, shit-poor country that doesn't see why the UN should have the right to know what they are doing in their own country.

But the American Government never really respected privacy, did they? Heck, if I refused to have my phone-calls eavesdropped, It would be legal to throw me in Abu-griab. By your standards. That doesn't make it right or legal in any humanitarian sense.

I hope some day you will understand the seriousness of terrorism. You live in a cushy little country that we protect and that nobody really cares about unless they want to go on a trip and smoke really good weed and bang some hot prostitutes for $100 each. It's easy for you to play this game, but Half/Dreaming and I are working American adults who have to face reality. When you compare eaves dropping on YOUR conversations to eaves dropping on conversations with suspected Al Qaeda members in Afghanistan during a war or compare inspections of U.S. weapons to inspections of WMD's of an international terrorist government like the Hussein regime when it is part of a ceasefire provision, you show that you either don't get what's going on or want to pretend that you don't.
