I think if you combine the inevitable droughts that would come about from climate change with the coming recession the US is headed for a depression that rivals the 20s. However, there are many ways to turn this recession around. It would not be very difficult at this point, it's just the government is doing the exact same stuff that put us here in the first place. I like Barack Obama's solution to the recession: tax cuts for the poor. That along with subsidizing college and stopping the mortgage companies from their current surge to put people out on the streets. by freezing interest and foreclosures for at least two years.
