I'd drink an entire can of Dr. Pepper. I lied. Hilarious. Props to this. My upper limits exist in the realm of self-mutilation or killing another living being (or sizable creature). Watching Saw, where the guy has to cut out his own eye to get a key behind his eyeball? Yeah, I couldn't do it. I'd rather sit on the floor and let the end come than cut out my own eye.

There is a chance I wont be crippled though...really the only type of cripple I meant was like...losing limbs or going blind...I don't think being deaf would be that bad though I can't imagine a situation where I would have to choose hearing over life.

I think we're talking more about "YOURE GONNA DIE RIGHT NOW WHATCHA GONNA DO ABOUT IT?!" as opposed to "You have been diagnosed with a possibly-terminal retinal cancer - do you want to operate and save your life?". That's a no brainer.

I don't see the difference. In both situations you will have to decide immediately wether you're going to lose your eye or lose your life. The only small difference is in the eye cancer situation you're going to die a very slow and horrible death if you decide to lose your life instead of your eye.

I think this is a very subjective question. Will you kill a person to survive? No... Will you kill a person to save your family? Probably... Will you kill the person that is trying to kill your family? Yes... Personally, after I got out of the Jigsaw killer place, I would hunt him down. People have to understand you don't just pull shit on people, and that's why I don't like the ending of so many thrillers. I would hunt that robber down and make him the prey. It's all about taking agressive control. Even a robber will back down if you threaten him at gunpoint. People aren't as tough as they look. If someone tries to mug you, take all his cash and leave him naked on the street.

In what universe is there no difference here?. In one situation I have to go under complete sedation while my eye and a piece of my skull is removed carefully by a team of skilled surgeons. In the other situation I have to take a knife/sharp object to my own eye and cut the fucker out while I'm obviously still conscious, without anesthesia and shaking from the adrenalin of dying in a few minutes. How the hell are these two situations even remotely the same? Personally, after I got out of the Jigsaw killer place, I would hunt him down. Their pride gets in the way, and they become aggressive. How often have you heard the phrase "a simple mugging gone wrong" in the news? Most street crims are just desperate people trying to get by. You try threatening someone that's already at the end of their rope and see how much self-control they have when they perceive you as a threat instead of a scared victim. I'm not saying I wouldn't want to beat a punk to a pulp as well, but unless you've got several years of martial arts training under your belt, give him your damn wallet and resolve to stop walking dangerous streets alone at night. Things can be replaced, your life can't.

Actually I see this question as difficult me. This isn't that different from asking, from what would you put up with to live. Would you live with a horrible painful disease leaving you nearly a vegetable, that has no cure? Would you live through something worse than the holocaust, with no guarantee someone will save you? Would you continue to strive through a hostile environment, like a desert or an ocean, when you know you are hundreds if not thousands of miles away from both water, and hope? We are all going to die. Don't you think at some point, its time to let go?

I'm guessing that in your contrived artificial scenario, the death of one or both of us is mandated, so we are at an impasse. It might go against my sociocultural conditioning, but if I felt I really wanted to live, and barring any extenuating circumstances, yeah, I think I would. Altruism and morality are myths. Also note the use of "kitten", "puppy", "baby"; all cutesy nicknames with emotional baggage. Try, "a vicious wolf", "a deadly lion", and "a serial rapist" for substitution. Would you have sex with Michal Jackson? Now you're pushing it. Luckily, I'm not his type (i.e., over 13).
