Is there such a thing as true creativity?

As in according to this defintion:

Resulting from originality of thought, expression, etc

I don't know about anybody else but it seems like nothing I do is entirely of my own creation. My fictional writing, drawings, and ideas all seem to be spliced bits that came from other places. Is there true original creativity out there considering that we have to have a foundation to base anything off of?

If a person born at birth without the 5 senses was suddenly given senses a number of years later is it reasonable to assume that since their neural connections haven't formed they can't produce creativity? How is that so different from a normal person growing up surrounded by ideas?

I think true creativity has a basis which is always the blending of more than one - already established - concept.

Even though most of the ideas that we have are derivatives of other ideas, it takes using bits and pieces from those ideas to establish a new idea, which is what I would call being creative.

When a producer makes a beat, he draws on concepts he knows in the past. What sounds good. What instruments he'd heard complimenting each other, in the past. What melodies he's heard. What parts of those melodies are his favorites. Etc. Then, using different aspects of all those ideas, he throws them together in his own mix and creates a new song.

Creativity (IMHO), is how well you use many different facets of different things, to create something completely new out of them - whether that something new be a work of art, or a solution to a problem.

There is a "place", or rather there's a "state of mind", where infinite creativity resides, beneath the conscious mind, and beneath the subconscious mind. The universal mind is where intuition and inspiration comes from, it encompasses every idea, every concept, every archetype, everything you can possibly imagine, everything that has ever been thought of or created, or will be thought of or created.

Yes there is a such thing as true creativity. True creativity is boundless. All you must do to access this infinite creativity and let it pour through you is to just stop your conscious thoughts. Meditate on a mandala using sacred geometry art for at least 10 minutes every day, and what you will experience is beyond words. I've only done this visual meditation a little bit, and my music is significantly more creative and original to the point it sounds like I've read sheet music to play it. I don't know how to read sheet music at all. I just play straight from intuition.

Refer to my thread: "Sacred Geometry Art: Opening the window to the soul".

This will seriously help you with your creativity man, as well as make you more confident(boost self-esteem) and just improve your life in many different ways. When I first started staring at the mandala, my ability to create original, more creative music increased significantly, as well as my ability to socialize with other people, get women...and basically just be happy in many different ways.

I am a beat maker, I've been doing so for 5 years now. While I do agree with what you are saying, but to be "truly creative" is to not use what you've heard before in a new way, but to do something that has never been done before, to be original. Something new, something fresh....NEW concepts, not existing one's

sometimes people define original as meaning it can't be inspired or derived from anything. I don't know why people make up this definition, it's dumb, it's stupid and it just makes understanding creativity impossible

there is nothing in this world that was not originally something else. including creativity.

take for example a tree. now take a chair. imagine it's the first wooden chair. you can make the argument that the first wooden chair ever created isn't original because it came from something else, a tree. or you could except the reality that energy can't be destroyed or created...and everything is energy.

what this means is simply: all of our thoughts, all of our creativity derives from something else. so it's okay if your works of art reminds you of previous ones. it's perfectly normal. however....

when we talk about creativity and originality we are talking about two things.

ONE: For it to be original, said creation must come from you. This may seem like an obvious question, did you create the work of art or not? But it actually goes much deeper, and can be a life long study

Because now you can start to ask the bigger questions, who are you? And how are you different from other people?

I believe we are all unique individuals. Therefore we all have the potentional to create original things. But if someones creativity just looks like a carbon copy, then this individual hasn't looked inwards yet to discover who they are. It's not really original. It doesn't really come from them.

You will know how original your works are when people tell you they can see you in them. So originality is about, you.

And TWO. Creativity means to create something 'new'. 'New' as in, a form as far as humanity knows no one else has created. These are the creative works that define a culture. The ones we remember

How do you create a new form? Really, it's alchemy. You create something 'new' when you relate things in a new way. Imagine if everyone puts the square on top of the circle. Now imagine if someone comes in and puts the square next to the circle. They have just created something new simply by relating the square and the circle in the new way.

It's important to understand that even 'new' things ALWAYS derives from something. Just as you were once earth, and the earth was once a star, and the star the big bang.

Take advantage of this understanding. Creating something 'new' is like connecting the dots. Pulling in everything you know and finding new unexplored relationships. Don't got enough dots to create something 'new'? Then you don't know enough.

You need to keep learning new things to be the foundation for creativity. Study, study study study study study. This is why the greatest scientists like Einstein also have some of the most creative minds. In short, the more you know, the more creative you can be.
