Red face My 2010 Resolution for myself, and all of you. (Just read this please.)

I've decided to write a brief collection of thoughts that have been accumulating in my mind for the past few weeks, and they are now on the brink of something big, I think. So I will share these with you, and I hope that you will truly and genuinely try to do these things.

I really think the world right now is in some trouble. I'm not talking about controversial environmental issues, or economic. I am beginning to no longer care for any of those topics. I'm beginning to wake up and recognize that (Edit)they'll never improve if we continue to approach them the way we do. (/Edit)

The world is in conscious trouble. I feel that everyone's problems and worry's can greatly lessen if we fix our jaded perception of reality, and start asking ourselves are we really sure we know what we thought we knew. (wink)

So my resolution for you comes as a series of things, that I really do hope all of you will do. I don't care whether you are complete atheists, complete skeptics, confused, spiritually inclined, heavily religious, gay, bi, straight, democrat republican, American, non-American... you get my drift. I don't care. I don't judge any of you by your views. Not anymore. So please, regardless of what you think, I hope that you will do these things, not for me, but for yourself, and for the world.

      1. Spend some time and effort committing completely unprompted and completely random acts of kindness. Do this regularly, if you want, or just once. Just do it sometime, and see how good it feels to see what you've done for someone. It can be anything. Personally, I have made a habit of purchasing things for the person behind me at drive thrus. I got this idea, because someone did it to me, and for some reason, I almost cried because of it.

Improve someone's day. Even something as simple as making the choice to say "hello" to every stranger you meet in the day. Wave to someone at a red light while driving. These things may seem irrelevant, but they will improve people's days, and it will fill them with whatever energy you put behind the action. Have the intent to make someone feel fantastic. They will pass it on. Just hold that intention, passively.

      2. Do something wonderful for YOURSELF. Please do this. I think people should begin to realize that they are all wonderful. No, I'm not high, or drunk. You are all wonderful people, in your own ways. This may sound a bit new-agey, or cheesy, but I believe you need to spend sometime apologizing to yourself for beating yourself up about anything you've done, and then forgive yourself. Forgive yourself for all the emotional distress you've had in the past, or choice you wish you hadn't made... apologize for them, and then allow yourself to forgive them and let them go! Realize that negativity and bad circumstance is NOT who you are. There is a higher, enlightened YOU that is blocked by the social conditioning and fear-creating mental barriers. But you know what? You may not be ready to let go of that frame of mind yet. Forgive yourself for that too. Understand that you are a perfect, wonderful, flawless individual. Such as the liberty bell is perfect because it is imperfect, so are you perfect exactly the way you are. Please practice remembering this every day from now on.

      3. If you have time, try meditating. It doesn't matter if you've never done it. Everyone is capable of it, and there are so many styles and ways of doing it. Just start meditating. When you do, just take yourself to a wonderful state of mind. You will also notice an impact on your dreaming.

      4. When you say something or do something to someone, and then regret it later (presuming you hurt them in some way) even if they are not around, apologize to them sincerely. Truly apologize to them, and send loving intent to them. It will make you feel better too.

      5. Finally (for now), hold a positive mindset whenever you can. Intention is a very very powerful thing. So many things are influenced by intention alone. Even if you do not believe this, just allow yourself to have intention behind everything you do, and to make that intention a positive, loving intention. Intend to make the world be better. Intend for everyone you meet in a day to have a better mood than they started with before they saw you. Intend for positivity. Ignore all the negativity you see. Turn off your news, and truly BELIEVE in positivity. Please do this. Set your intent to change YOUR own world, YOUR own reality to be positive and wonderful. To have a wonderful learning experience and a journey for the rest of your life. Make the mental intention to make the world beautiful and full of love. Materialistic things will be no more, and they won't matter anymore. Just set your intention to positivity. No matter what's happening. It can be difficult, but I just want you to try.

Edit: 6- Call someone you love, right NOW, and tell them you love them. Literally do that as soon as you're done reading!

      -----

Please make a point to re-read this post from time to time, or copy and paste it into a text file for you to read. This post is just about love, and spreading positivity and warmth. Put all of our differences aside, and lets just collaborate to improve human beings all over the world. You are all wonderful people, and I know you are very talented in many ways. Very intelligent people who have shown me many perspectives on life, reality, and consciousness. Even though I don't agree with everything all of you say, and many of you have disagreed with things I believe, none of that matters. I don't see you any differently, and if I do, then the only difference is I see your mind. I see the real you. The beautiful person with a beautiful mind. Take this positivity and spread it to everyone you see or touch. I am filled with a desire to help everyone see this positivity that I have seen, and I hope you all will too. Thank you for reading. I may be posting more things on this thread soon, as I think of them. Everyone is more than welcome to add to the list. I just hope everyone will remain peaceful on this thread.

I wasn't sure where to post this, so Mods, feel free to move it in accordance with where you think it belongs.

      -Jared.

Nice post, Rainman. I'll take your suggestions to heart.

I see what you mean here. There's so many topics that we hold near and dear, and thusly fasten a false sense of security to our being. Whether it be religion, politics, nationality, or even tastes in music, we all seem to treat them the same way. "I'm fundamentally right about everything, if you disagree you are wrong". But behind every other person's eyes are different beliefs backed up by the same amount of conviction we have.

Its easy to instinctively react with hate when someone embodies a completely different way of looking at the world. I know I've done it my fair share of times, and still do in my weaker moments. But I've found that very act of kneejerk typecasting and hatred makes me guilty of the same bigotry and hatred I'm condemning others for. I've often heard to "be the change you want to see in the world". It can only really be done by inspiring people through example, not by verbally forcing viewpoints down each others throats.

Its really quite simple: stop taking yourself so seriously. I'm constantly surprised at how much simpler and easier life can be when I'm not always putting my thoughts, desires, and emotions first.

Thank you for taking the time to read and respond, Speesh. I too am very very guilty of clinging to my ideas, as if they were a part of who I am. I think most people have done that, and I'm beginning to realize that even though it is necessary to let that go, it's okay that we haven't let that go yet. That's part of my point. I'm trying to not try anymore. I wish you well and thank you for taking this to heart.

You make me sad here, OP. <:U
What about everyone who comes after us? How's that irrelevant?

But, yah, spread altruism, spread the love. But also, just go and do things. Work toward things you thought you'd always get around to doing but haven't. This is especially important for all you on-the-cusp teens. Get in the habit now, of trying new things, of retaining spontaneity (and separating it from conditioned impulse).

I think saying environmental issues are irrelevant is a little irresponsible.

It'll be a bit hard to spread the love if you're starving, or in the middle of an oil war.

Well that's not really the point. I think most of us are in agreement that its a big issue. But sitting in front of the computer trying to convince some guy that you're right about it isn't going to help anything. Going out into the world with authenticity and the intention to change things will.

Well I guess that once again, this is another failed attempt at trying to be positive at DV. Idunno what I was thinking. Everyone here seems to see right through what I was trying to do, and instead focus on one minute detail, which I admit was poorly phrased, but had literally nothing to do with the rest of the post. But that's what the topic shifts to, because it's controversial. I guess I had a brief moment of stupidity. My bad.

      /facepalm.

After this whole post about spreading love and committing random acts of kindness and to find yourself, that's all that anyone can focus on. Amazing. Truly amazing.

That was a poorly phrased statement on my part, and I didn't intend for it to come accross as though I am indifferent to the condition of the world. In California, I'm a huge supporter of becoming pro-active to protect the environment, and I regularly speak up about all of the terrible shit we do to the planet, so I promise, I don't need a lecture. What I meant was that by choosing to focus on how "bad" we are for doing this, we are not solving anything. We need to look at everything from a positive perspective, and then we'll be able to start changing things. The way we have been approaching it now won't change anything, and thus it's irrelevant.

I didn't think I "should" be doing anything in particular. Most people aren't like this, so I don't understand where your surprise that I wasn't either comes from. Not to mention, if it were obvious, the world wouldn't be as fucked up as it is now. So it shouldn't come to a surprise to you that not everyone is as enlightened as you evidently are.

Maybe I wasn't like this before, and maybe I'm still not, because of how people seem to still completely ignore the intention behind something like this, and zero in on an unrelated controversial statement just for the sake of argument, but I digress.

Sorry that not everybody wholeheartedly agreed with you, but this is a discussion board and that might've been a bit monotonous.

I agree with your main message but the point I was making is that if everybody is blissfully ignorant rather than just blissful which is what you said (even if you didn't mean it, I can't read minds), then things can quickly go wrong.

I understand what you meant, and I agree with you. No where on here nor anywhere else do I even hint at promoting that people should be ignorant and blissful.

I don't care if people disagree with me. I was upset because it seems like the entire point of the post was COMPLETELY disregarded. And it was.

Do you think people need to be told to think positively?

Absolutely. Do you not think they do? We were just having a discussion about something similar in the chat today. As a matter of fact, just look in the Help forum. I'll let every single post in there speak for itself. I have posts in there too. Think they're all thinking positively?

There is a thing that exists called the ego. Everyone's got one. Some people are more effected by its negative aspects than other people. Either way, we live in a very unaware, asleep society. To suggest that people naturally think positively in this society, is absolute silliness. So, I won't assume that's what you said. But in any case, am I harming anyone by saying, "think positively," and "you're a good person?"

The usual suspects will always find their excuse to criticize and nitpick because that is what they are looking for. They will perpetually look for opportunities to be offended until they decide to take the higher road and choose to view things from a grander perspective.

Having an inability to take the higher road one will form whatever opinion with whichever way they know how. Just as a child can only form sentences with whatever words they know, one can only ever describe things with whatever perspective they carry.

Dont fault "them" for it. "They" can always grow to see the higher path. I guess their crticism is their form of compliment at a level absent of compliments from a lack of giving them.

Anyway, the higher road is one of looking at yourself as all the reflections or perceptions you perceive in this world, including the ones in this thread that are seemingly criticizing. There simply is no separation between anything "you" believe is separate even between the personas posting here.

We only ever interact with ourself... always.

It only seems to be separate because we share reality with ourselves in a sort of delayed choice experiment to play the game of memory with an eternal moment.

Remembering to forget, so to speak.

One that remembers knows that without that delayed choice they would see things as they actually are...

The same inter-connected inter-dependant infinite energy interacting with itself.

The deception of division always attempts to rear its ugly head and make us forget.

      Pay it no mind.

I agree wholeheartedly, though keeping that in mind as a concept and actually living it with one's entire being are two very different things. I can never seem to get the second one down.

I think it's a struggle for everyone, Speesh, it certainly is for me. Thanks for your inspirational words, Cylic. They came with perfect timing.

Rainman can correct me if I misunderstand, but I think the point was that playing whack-a-mole with these issues out of guilt or indignation serves neither our general well-being nor the stated aims of environmentalism. We will be in a much better position to interact appropriately with our ecosystem if we have a loving, rather than fearful, consciousness.
If you have a sense of caring for others, you will manifest a kind of inner strength in spite of your own difficulties and problems. With this strength, your own problems will seem less significant and bothersome to you. By going beyond your own problems and taking care of others, you gain inner strength, self-confidence, courage, and a greater sense of calm.Dalai Lama

I love you, Rainman, I really really do.

      That is all.

removes the colors from our sight.
red is grey and yellow white,
but we decide which is right,
      and which is an illusion....
