      First time cutting weight

Hey guys, I know that I should get all the knowledge I need for this from my gym, but in 5 weeks I will have my first amateur MMA fight. I fluctuate between about 185 and 190 and the instructor wants me to fight at 170 eventually. He said since Ive never cut weight before he will try to get a catch weight at 175.

So, that being said, I know most of the basics about cutting. Such as eat a lot of greens, no bread, no red meat, and drink nothing but water or tea. I guess my questions are, is there a safe yet effective method to this cutting and what should I expect my first time out doing this? Any tips on how to make this process less painful would be greatly appreciated.

Well, i saw a lot of views but no responses, so I just thought Id let you all know I made weight...in other words went from 190 to 172 in about 5 weeks. Only changes I made were eating a fiber one bar for breakfast, a salad of some kind for lunch (or other low calorie option), no snacking except on apples and only drinking water or tea. Dinner I still just ate whatever my mom made lol.

I won my fight too! although I messed up the first round pretty bad and thus had a swollen bleeding nose the rest of the fight lol. Ill put a video up whenever I get it. Should it go in here or in entertainment?

Hey, dude. Congrats on the fight!

Too bad I didn't see this thread sooner. I was going to suggest fiber. Haha. Can't wait to see some video, though. What kind of training are you doing? What styles are you working on?

And if you wanna keep your MMA progress in here, that's fine. If you want to start a new one in Entertainment (or I'd even suggest the Lounge, since it's more about you - a DV member - than it is just the sport of MMA. ). Take your pick.

Thanks O! The lounge is a good suggestion, more people will probably see it there anyways! Ill start a thread up once I get the DVD.

The place I go is mainly a bjj place with a lot of boxing and some muay thai thrown in. They dont practice wrestling as much because...well most of the guys there are former wrestlers so they already know what they're doing lol. My background, on the other hand, is tkd. So while the boxing and bjj is quite good for me and I am getting better pretty fast at those, I need more direct wrestling help than the other guys. We also do a lot of cardio training, like 45 min of body work out, then circuit training, and then 4 or 5 3 min rounds of grappling, followed by the same of striking. Not gonna lie, my first few weeks there I couldnt even make it past the circuit training lol.

Once I get healed up and back in the gym I will definitely be asking for a lot of wrestling help because I got pretty hurt in the first round and wanted to take the guy down cool him off and let my head recover, but I didnt even try because I never practice it!
