      A Box of Dreamsakes

I was reading a DJ entry and my friend mentioned a whistle with something red on top of it. I thought how interesting it would be to get a whistle and make it like the one in the dream. Personally, objects like this (from a dream) move me.

I thought to myself how cool it would be to have a box full of stuff you thought of in your dreams and that you somehow made. While lucid dreams bring your conscious mind into your dream world, Dreamsakes could bring your dream world to your waking world...and bridge the gap.

Perhaps playing with your Dreamsakes could induce more lucid dreams by planting dream signs.

The idea with this thread is to catalog things you dream about that could feasibly be forged in waking life. Then, maybe one day you could set out to making some of them. If not, at least you could have them listed for review.

If you like the idea, post your items. I'll start.

Lighted Ball: I tried to shoot fireballs from my hands. It didn't work, but a DC threw me this lighted ball, and I threw it to another DC.

I can see one fatal flaw with this idea. If you use something while awake all the time and have a dream I don't think you will be aware that it is a dream. You would need to constantly be reality checking and maintaining awareness while using it in waking life.

Hmm, I'm not sure I understand you correctly. A box you can summon in your dreams, which will be filled with anything you train your mind to remember to be in there? Say I have a bunch of amulets, each granting me a different super power. I can summon my box which will contain all of them. Same with weapons, potions. Right?

Not quite Matt. In my example, I imagined I was shooting fireballs one night. I turned lights on and off in time with my shooting to simulate the light from the ball. I played with the blinking light on my computer, timing it so it seemed as though I made the light appear in my hand. That same night, I went lucid. I remembered my dream goal of entering my nightmare, but couldn't. I said, OK, I'll shoot fireballs. I couldn't. I tried to just make a fireball appear in my hand...no luck. Oh well.

Then, I saw my daughter down a hill. She had a lighted ball and she threw it to me. I'm certain it was a product of my intention to shoot fireballs. Anyway, that was a dream, but I could get a ball and put lights in it, then pretend it is a fireball and throw it.

The point would be to make something in waking life that I first thought of in a dream. I would like to have things in my waking life that I dreamed of. You know, when you remember a good time or a bad time in your life, your body sends out the exact same chemicals as it did when you first experienced the event, though likely in lesser amounts. I feel that creating Dreamsakes would bridge an emotional gap between the waking world and the dream world.

Now, Zebra said, "... If you use something while awake all the time and have a dream I don't think you will be aware that it is a dream. You would need to constantly be reality checking and maintaining awareness while using it in waking life."

This may be true, but if you first saw something in a dream, I believe it's roots are in a dream. When you dream of it again, I bet you (I) would recognize it as a dream sign. Even if Zebra is right, it would only take one dream to find out, and one lucid to see if it aids in my ultimate...Power...to shoot FIREBALLS!

      What do you think?

I'm not exactly sure about your theory but I love it when people come up with stuff like this. In my opinion simply wanting to shoot fireballs is enough to make it happen in your dreams.

I'm still not 100% sure on what you're theory is but I think I understand.

Hmm, perhaps, but what about non-lucid dreams where you fly or use telekinesis? I think you're complicating things. Like zebrah says, you just need to believe in yourself. Even though we should be able to do things right away, it takes time to get good at dream control. Keep up the enthusiasm and just give it time, you'll be throwing around fireballs the size of cars in no time

As an artist, my artwork is sometimes influenced by my dreams. In one of my dreams, there were two rubbery balls with teeth biting me all over. (More of a nightmare than a dream) The next morning I got up and made them in clay. I call them shredder balls. I will post a picture of them if I can figure out how.http://www.dreamviews.com/attachment...&thumb=1&stc=1

That is really cool. How does it make you feel to see part of a dream every day? Do you feel as though you made peace with a nightmare? Conquered it?

I actually think it was pretty cool that I could turn a negative (nightmare) into a positive (inspiration). I had a big show coming up and I was at a loss for ideas. It was actually a relief for me to have found my inspiration and was happy to have had the nightmare. The following night I had a really cool dream, which I also used as an inspiration for a sculpture for the same show. I don't know where any pictures are of it right now, but when I find some, I'll post them with a description of the dream.

The closest I've come to making a Dreamsake is my current Profile Pic. It is a ring of hot embers. It was really interesting just making it. I've thought about it for so long, I guess it was something I just had to do; I enjoyed it tremendously though. I'm going to make it again to video the embers losing their light so I can run it in reverse and show them heating up.

I'm afraid the effort is something most people won't want to invest, or they won't know where to begin to create some of the things they dream about. I'm glad to know I'm not alone on this one.
