Using Lucid Dreaming as inpspiration for musicians?

      Hello everyone,

Im a part time music producer/composer for TV.... Im looking for some info on using the "free time" during a lucid dream to create music in my mind and hopefully remember it when I wake up...Are there any other musicians (or creative people in general) on here who have tried to accomplish this?

I just read that we are in our most creative state when we are sleeping because the analytical side of our brain shuts down allowing the creative side to take over. Is there any info about this approach for creating music? This would help me a great deal since Im currently juggling a part time career + a fulltime job with a family...

Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance everyone

Yeah, I just recently started doing that. I can get the vocal melody, the guitars, the bass, and the drums all going at the same time with almost no effort. It's almost like the songs form themselves. I can't remember any of it yet though...still workin on that. But, yeah, I definitely think that it's something worth trying

I heard myself performing a song over the speakers in a bar in a non-lucid dream once. I hummed it into my iPhone when I woke up and made a song out of it. Then I performed it at the bar where I heard it in my dream. It was kinda freaky.

I play the piano, and several times in both non-lucid and lucid dreams I've just sat down at the piano and started playing. The music is totally original and sometimes sounds quite good too the hard part is remembering it. Once or twice I've managed to have a sheet on which the notes instantly appear as I play them which is helpful...

If only there was a way for us to record our ideas by humming without waking up...Like going to bed with a digital recorder and somehow mentally communicating with our physical bodies to press RECORD and hum the melodies into the device (All while still sleeping)

or we could just let the recorder capture the whole night and review it in the morning. Thanks for the input guys.

      I consistently hear this music...
It is unearthly. It can be described as music that is so complex that it takes close listening to realize the actual melody. No instrument on earth could ever play it.

      ...And that sucks.

What is so complex about it? If it truly is something innovative, maybe you have to experiment with that sort of sound more before you can remember it better. Maybe you could start by trying to imitate it. You could see what your dreams come up with in response to your efforts.

Personally, I think it would be cool to dream of a good song that's clearly not in equal temperament.

      just remember
at the end of the dream, really concentrate on what you want to remember and say to yourself "I want to remember this when i wake up!"

I don't know if this is relevant, but my friend composes music and also does LDs.

I asked him did he ever try to compose in a dream. He said "well, the first three notes in that piece were from a dream". I didn't quite understand what he meant.

But for me, whenever I try to compose in a dream, it always turns out to either be a big rip-off of several other pieces or to be very bad-sounding.

I've had several dreams in which I'll listen to a favourite artist and my brain will throw in a few original songs amongst the rest of the tracks They're usually very close to the band's style, too.
