      A life time without dreaming.

This thread is a story about the years i spent without dreaming. As well as the process of ridding this plight, stand by for a long one folks.

In elementary school i never did my homework or paid any attention in class, I was thought lazy and even stupid. But it turned out, i was just tired. You see i had developed a growth in my right sinus cavity. The growth was so large i couldn't breathe through my right nostril. Resulting in sever breathing issues, my mother claims that at some times through the night i would just stop breathing in 10 second bursts. Because of my breathing issues i couldn't sleep, it took hours just to get to sleep, and i would never stay asleep. My nose would always wake me up, i could never get into the deep enough sleep needed to dream let alone get a good nights sleep. So, dreams were rare and a treat. When i didn't sleep i was tired all day, enough so that i wouldn't do anything accept daydream about being asleep. So i didn't know what was going on in class, and never wanted to do my homework. My grades were awful, i was never in my right mind set and I would never dream. Needless to say i was miserable.

Eventually, my strange breathing habits worried my mom too much, she brought me to a specialist in... well... noses. The doctor brought me in, dipped cotton balls in numbing fluids and proceeded to shove them in my nose, this was rather uncomfortable, almost painful. after a few minutes, the cotton balls came out, and a camera went in, studying my nose, the doctor claimed to have found something, so i was sent for an MRI and on the MRI they found the growth that was the cause of my anguish. I was scheduled for surgery. So now i played the waiting game.

Several months passed until i finally went under the knife, this being the first surgery i could remember i was scared out of my mind, when the paint smelling anesthesia went over my face, i fell out of consciousness very quickly, upon waking up in a recovering room puking blood, it wasn't over. After a painful car ride home, i spent 2 months in my room getting over the nausea after the procedure. Once i was back on my feet, i was a new man, i could breathe, i could sleep, and best of all i could dream. After dreaming 3 nights in a row, i fell in love with it, having my first lucid within the month. I couldn't help but look for more, i was reading up on Wikipedia about various different traits of dreams and so on, upon a Google search i found dream views and here i am now. A passionate dreamer and member of this great community.

Make sure not to give up lucid dreaming, you need to make up for years without any dreaming at all. And you probably have an advantage over most people who want to lucid dream, you've got the most motivation with years of being unable to dream this isn't just a luxury you've had your whole life like us, but something that was denied to you and is a special treat.

Mines not a very interesting story, I was on LFMF and someone mentioned lucid dreaming, I googled it, saw what it was about and was like "Fuck Ya I'm ganna fly!", and here I am 2 weeks later, unable to fly.

But somehow trying to have lucids gave me the ability to win my first dream fight ever, got into a sword fight with Achilles.

Interesting, I can almost never breathe through both of my nostrils either. It's only when I use nasal spray stuff that I can breathe through both nostrils, otherwise it's always one at a time. Maybe I should do something about this, or have it looked into. I can sometimes feel like I don't get enough oxygen during a day from just passive breathing, and need to be concious of my breathing all the time to simply get enough oxygen to function.

That's what happened to me too, i had to get used to breathing through my nose, most of the time i was breathing through my mouth and i could hardly taste. Nice to see that someone has been in the same boat, id check it out!

Well told. Glad you shared it. I've been fascinated with dreams since I was very young so I can't imagine not dreaming. How sad.

I was like any normal person. It was rare for me to remember 1 or 2 dreams a week and i had only had one lucid dream at the time. Then i heard about other peoples dreams and got interested. I told myself to remember dreams and to record them. Now i remember dreams every night and have lucid dreams every week or 2 when i am lucky. So far my lucidity is increasing. I had two lucid dreams over 2 days. The first one was cut short by my alarm and my other one was just an odd black dream i couldent change.

Nice read, I too have always been fascinated with dreams, I enjoy almost all of them (never really had nightmares that much) and when the possibility dream control was presented to me I was ecstatic.

hmm I can't breathe through my right nostril either but i'm pretty sure it's just a booger, although this booger has been there since I was young, I can't blow it out. maybe it's a growth. it doesn't bother me as much when I sleep.

I know EXACTLY what you went through. I have been experiencing the same problems all of my life, and I am 41. I have always had trouble remembering my dreams. I would say that I remember 2-4 /mo tops! The dreams are always visually obscured like looking at the world through a dark curtain... never vivid. Lucid dreams I could count on one hand for my entire life. I've never had trouble with breathing, yet it has ALWAYS taken 30-60 min, at the least, to get to sleep... every single night.
Also, and I think this may be connected, if I close my eyes to visualize something, I cannot actually "see" what I intend. I only ever get a feeling of what I wish to visualize. Say I want to visualize a nice sunny beach, I will more or less sense that I know what a beach looks like but NEVER actually SEE a beach... am I making any sense?
I have experienced SP several times in my life, but was always afraid of it, not knowing what it was, resulting in panic. After finding DV last Fall and reading one post in particular, I found out exactly what SP was and embraced it. Since then I have had about 7 LD's, with at least 3 of them being WBTB WILD's. They were INCREDIBLE, but very short lived lasting only a minute or two.
I have done the journals, affirmations and meditations, yet still have not been consistent. I am currently in a "dry spell" lasting for about 4 months.
Anyway, after reading your post, I too wonder if something is wrong somewhere in my head, but like I said, I have never had problems with breathing. Just getting to sleep, remembering dreams and everyday visualizing. Hmmm.
