My dreams are dull sequences of events

When I remember a dream, I remember it as a series of events that happened. But it's hard to remember myself actually being there and doing the events! Even the most adventurous dreams seem dull when I wake up, because I don't feel like I was ever there. I mean I know I was never there, but the point is to think I was!
Most of the few lucids I've had felt like this too, maybe because I wasn't thinking straight and I mostly went with the dream anyway - I didn't really stop to look around, except one which my brother woke me up from, it was so cool, damn him
Sorry if I'm not making any sense I'm not sure I understand myself what I'm talking about.

Different people remember different things from dreams. Me? Pretty much everything I remember is sight. Nothing more. I don't remember sounds, (though I do remember what conversations were about, I don't remember what they sounded like). I don't remember smells, touch, taste, or anything. Simply sight and then just "knowing" what happens, without having the sensation. But my sight experience is like real life in dreams. This helps me remember events too, since I have a firm visual memory of them too.

Just practice different parts of your recall. That's what helped me up my dreams from something similar as yours to my current level. If you remember ANY visual details, or other sensations, write them up in as much detail as you can manage. Do this to every dream for a couple of months and your recall should be noticeably better.

If you have a DJ, don't write "I killed a monster that tried to attack me". It's not detailed enough. Write "A big green monster attacked me. It was a messy sight. It had three eyes, a peak, 5 tentacles, it was slimy, made a low buzzing sound, and was about 15 feet tall. I ended up killing it by stabbing a knife through what seemed to be the head. It made a squicky noise and dropped dead." or something.

Thanks for the advice I don't remember much other than sight either, but in some of my dreams I hear a deafening sound of some sort as I'm about to die (then, of course, I wake up).
Maybe there's no detail just because I remember no detail, and the dreams were actually quite vivid as I was dreaming? There's no doubt that my recall needs improvement, anyhow.

Being awakened in the middle of a dream will definitely help to remember it more clearly... that's probably why the one your brother woke you form seems more vivid. If you fall back nto deep sleep after a dream and then wake up later it'll be a lot harder to recall, and might seem less vivid.

But you ought to look into techniques for increasing clarity and stability. There's a great one on just that subject written by Nina that I guess is in the Wiki. I know the techniques are fr lucid dreaming, but if you immerse yourself in thinking about how to increase vividness and stability, it should seep through into your regular dreams too. Just really WANTING them to be more vivid and remember them better will help, but doing things to work toward it is even better.
