Catastrophic events in your dreams where you might die?

Anyone ever have any crazy end of the world/I'm going to die kind of dream? I had one of the craziest in recent memory. It was quite scary. I laid in my bed trying to make a lucid dream happen but this one was probably just as real as any dream I have ever had. I was with my friend in his car and we were driving. We were on a freeway, very much like the los angeles freeway. I am actually shocked at how similar it was in my dream to the real thing (I am looking at google images of LA freeway). I live in Tx btw so this strikes me as odd. So we are driving and then all of a sudden everything stops working as people leave their cars to inspect the skies. I kind of knew it was the end of the world or thought, unaware that I was dreaming. The landscape was not of buildings but rather miles of valley and greenery, which was very weird for LA. My friend told me the sky was "transforming" or "evolving" something to that extent. I look at the sky to my right and its changing colors. I then hear a loud explosion to my left and to my surprise, a volcano has erupted. I can see and feel the smoke and lava spewing out. As this happened, I felt an intense force of gravity pull me down as if I were falling. It took me a second or two to realize that in fact I was falling. The bridge was going down and I was going down with it at a high velocity, gasping for air with a million thoughts running through my head.

I woke up before I hit the ground I guess. I just laid there on my bed..."UNBELIEVABLE" is the word I would use to describe it. Be careful what you wish for. Dreams get me everytime. In recent times I have not been exploring my dreams so its a little harder to remember what I dreamed the night before, but everytime I try, I am left speechless.

Our are dreams just as real as real life?
Are ones dreams created on the fly?
Are dreams just a simulation that play out every worst case scenario ever?
Also I am interested in hearing some of you guys' stories/comments/random stuff

Sorry if my post is a little off just wanted to put this in here before I completely forget

Sounds like you had some night. I've also had dreams about the world ending/me dying. The one i can most clearly remember is one i had a few months ago. I was walking around in a small rural type town looking for my family. I was loooking for my family because the nuclear reactor near the town was about to have a meltdown. Everyone was running around screaming and there was total chaos throughout the town. People where also getting in their cars to drive as far away as passible, but it wouldn't work because for some reason all the cars and electronics in the town had stopped working. So as i kept frantically searching for my family, everything seemed to be turning a light orange color. When i noticed, i looked up at the reactor off in the distance. Then i felt this total feeling of calmness and peace, a bright light started to come out of the reactor then everything turned white. And in those last few seconds my only thought in my mind was that i couldn't spend my last moments with my family. And then i woke up, i was so relieved it was just a dream but it had felt so real. I was astonished that a dream could feel so real.

I've had plenty. Zombie apocalypses; alien invasions; waking up already dead (waking up as a ghost); asteroid impacts; etc. They are horrible, while they are happening, but they are some of my most interesting dreams, once I've had a chance to look back on them.

Here's one of my most recent:

In one dream every person I had ever dreamed about was lined up single file outside of an ambulance. This took place on a football field, and as I watched on from the bleachers, they all looked over at me for help. Some other stuff happened and I was left with a feeling that I somehow had ratted out my own friends for more secret information about the universe.

All my dream friends are gone, now. I don't think there's anything to dreams, but I still kinda miss em. Maybe, maybe I don't - I'm not really sure anymore.

So does that mean you don't see them in your dreams anymore?

I wish it was longer, or do I? It happened so quickly. Is there any way to prolong these dreams? Can I expect to have another? I'm not too bad at all when it comes to dreaming but I always have that doubt. I seriously want to have another adventure. Dreams are crazy just plain no sense making crazy sequences. They have got to be the most random places ever. I often go to a place that is similar to something I have seen but with a twist. Is there any way to enhance the understanding of dreams? Something along the lines of what one would get with psychedelics but without psychedelics.

Well i would suggest you start keeping a Dream Journal. Often times you can find patterns in your dreams, so if you start writting your dreams down it will help you understand them better while also helping your dream recall.

Yeah I'm glad you said that. I use to keep one, then I just stopped for a while. I will start again. Dreaming is fun. I told a friend about it and he loves lucid dreaming now. Oh man I can't wait for tonight/tommorow

I had one where I was being chased by this huge killer with an execution axe. I ran forever then I hid in this mansion on the street behind a door and stayed perfectly quiet. I hear him walk in the door and he opened it straight open and looked right at me, took his axe, and drove it into the top of my skull. I woke up with the sensation of the wound on my head there was a strong fine tingling.

I also had one a few days after the end of the world rapture was supposed to happen, but in this dream the world really was ending. I was at a huge mall when they announced it and everyone just flipped into chaos instantly, people started running and getting their stuff. And I saw a bunch of people stealing during this, a smart kid from my school was at the mall and I caught up to him. I asked him if he really thinks the world is ending, he said something like "This doesn't seem like a drill to me." And then he hurried off. One other weird thing happened in this I was walking around trying to find my bags or something, and this old man was just sitting in his store and was like "Can I help you with anything sir." Then his eyes turned black like a demon in a movie, I thought he was a devil trying to create chaos. I got away from him pretty quick and then another old woman, this time. She said Oh don't worry about that guy he's just strange, but I saw it in her eyes too ;x Creeeeeeepy

one dream of death i had went like this: i woke up in a hospital bed, with some device laying on the table beside me showing a green light. it turned red, and this feeling of fear went through me. i stumbled over to a mirror, while clawing at my face, attempting to pull off some kind of fleshy mask. i pulled it a ways off, then it snapped back onto my face, and said in an angry voice: "the mask stays on!" then i attempted running out into the hall for help, but began to feel a great pain and passed out before i made it through the doorway.

I recently had one interesting dream that may not be considered scary. I was in some limousine with my friends. We drove around my small town and ate pizza. Then, my friends said to me that when I came home, I would die. I sorry if this isn't considered scary to you, but it was torture for me. It pretty much followed with my friends singing and being like "Wow! You're gonna die soon!" "You're so lucky!" while I am breaking down in tears. I think that the dream ended before I reached my house. I guess this means I'm scared of death? I usually don't have scary dreams, because I usually think mantras like this "I'm not going to dream about _____ tonight" before I go to sleep. It works well for me. Sigh, if only I could do that with lucid dreams.......................
