      Pain in dreams=pain upon awakening?

Couple of things first: I'm polyphasic, Everyman 3 schedule. This was during my 12 AM nap, so pretty much all REM.

Anyways, I and i had a dream where i got stabbed in the chest. obviously, it hurt, so i tried to wake up. anyways, i woke up in the middle of sleep paralysis, and i could still feel the pain in my chest. it wasn't until i broke free of the sleep paralysis that i managed to get the pain to go away.

similar things happen during my attempts at flying in my lucid dreams. if i fall and land on my chest, it would actually hurt.

any explanation for this? or some way to prevent it?

Would it hurt because you got stabbed in your chest in your last dream or that you just landed on your chest when you were flying?

Well sometimes I used to wake up and the last thing I would see in my dream would be a helicopter, and there were a bunch of trees outside and I could see the leaves in the trees make out a helicopter.

Sometimes when your body feels something in real life you feel it from something else in your dream. You might have something hurting your chest at night and you feel it from something else in your dreams. If you set an alarm sometimes you hear a fire alarm or someone yelling the alarm at the end of your dream before you wake up. Or if someone tickles your nose you feel as if a feather falls on your nose if you were dreaming. So it seems like you are having chest pains at night.

the same for dreaming. you don't need to be asleep to see dreamy visions. especially when awakening you have more tendency to hallucinate things. just as you can see things, you can feel things that aren't there when you are awake.

As for an explanation for your experience i thought maybe since physical pain involves neurological signalling. Your body is using your brain to fire signals and give the illusion of feeling pain upon waking up.
I've had dreams of feeling pain. I only felt any pain because i saw glass penetrating my body. When i realized it is just illusory pain. My real body is not hurt. The pain went away and i could go on with the dream content.

I could see this happening, it seems normal. I dont personally feel any pain in dreams; never have, not even once. I wish i could tell you why, maybe then you could avoid it.
