      Confusing dreams with memories

So I've been attempting to keep a dream journal, but I've been encountering a problem. Whenever I wake up from a dream, it takes me a while to realize that it didn't actually happen. For example, if I have a dream that I was talking with a friend, when I wake up I think that I actually talked to my friend a while ago, and I must not have had any dreams. It's only after I fully wake up that I register it was a dream, and by then I've forgotten most of the details.

      Does anyone have any advice?

Maybe try to work on ADA.only suggestion I can really give since that might help you realize that that event JUST happened instead of thinking that it happened a while ago.

It happens. Certainly work on ADA.

It might help to acknowledge inherint realness of dreams firmly in your mind, my interpretation is that your mind is telling you that it is senseless or even harmful for you to remember this information. If you can only conceptualize that dreams happen in the same framework of ordinary reality, and therefore contain real information, then you might be able to remember this dream and be positively influenced by information contained in it without falling for any traps or pitfalls of the human mind.

I realize all this contains a lot of assumptions about you so if that is so then please, feel free to call me out or just ignore my post

I suggest that you not worry, upon waking, about what was real or not, and just write down what you remember. You can sort out what was real or not later, and you'll also have much more written down before it was lost.

I've found that it's not always best to do too much rationalizing during the fog of initial awakening; just write down what you can, while you still can.

      Welcome to DV, BTW!
