      I was a perpetual invisible lettuce-eating machine?

I wasn't Lucid, so I'm fairly certain this dream belongs here... but this wasn't a "normal" dream persay.

I had already had two non-lucids last night. One was during my initial sleep cycle, the other was after going back to bed from the bathroom.
The third "dream" just consisted of me being half-asleep laying in bed, eating lettuce. I couldn't see or feel the lettuce, nor could I taste it, but I was still putting it into my mouth by wiggling my fingertips. The rest of my body was still. I could chew it and I could hear and feel the chewing, but I didn't, or couldn't, swallow. It would just chew down to nothingness, only to be replaced with more invisi-lettuce. That's it.

I wasn't aware of the dreaming, but I knew I was in my bed, asleep. I wasn't Lucid, but I didn't feel... asleep either. Also I'm pretty sure I wasn't chewing on my hair in my sleep ala "I ate my pillow."

What on earth was this? Some weird sleep-paralysis? Was it just a weird-feeling normal dream? Did I just really really crave lettuce?

Wow! That is strange. Why couldn't it have been something better than lettuce? It would have been great it it has been cookies.

Sounds like some kind of false awakening, or since you didnt feel asleep maybe some ultra-vivid HH.

Hypnagogic/Hypnopompic Hallucinations? Had to look that abbreviation up cause it's new to me. XD
I actually don't get the hallucinations/imagery that often, so that didn't really occur to me. Now that I think about that's probably exactly what it was, since I was on the verge of waking up at the time.
