I think the 'can't X well enough' is a common problem.
From what I've seen, problems of this nature are usually attributed to a lack of confidence, and for one reason or another, you might not feel like you control yourself in a lucid dream, which in turn means that you'll experience the set backs which you described. When you find yourself in those situations try to really think about how in control you actually are, just close your eyes and use your entire power of concentration to do the thing you want to do.
Speaking of experience, the first time I passed through a wall in a dream was really kind of hard, and the wall felt thick and solid, but then, I closed my eyes and just tried to really consider the possibility that I could, in fact, do it; I pushed, and I ended up on tumbling on the other side.
It might sound like a story out of Peter Pan, but belief is really the key in these things, and it might be hard at first, but good news is that after you've done it even once, it'll be significantly easier to do it, since now you know you can do it. Try to repeat to yourself "I'm in control" over and over while you find yourself in those situations. I very much doubt it has to do with your blood pressure, since I have had dreams like these myself, and I think I know what the force you're talking about feels like, so I wouldn't worry too much about that; regardless, if you think that might have a correlation, I think you should check it out, since our brains are weird like that.
