I thought alot of people may be interested in this if you haven't already heard about it.
It's a wikipedia page on the dream argument which is about reality v.s. the dream world and which is which.
Read the bootom half. It won't take you long at all and it is very interesting.

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dream_argument

He who dreams of drinking wine may weep when morning comes; he who dreams of weeping may in the morning go off to hunt. While he is dreaming he does not know it is a dream, and in his dream he may even try to interpret a dream. Only after he wakes does he know it was a dream. And someday there will be a great awakening when we know that this is all a great dream. Yet the stupid believe they are awake, busily and brightly assuming they understand things, calling this man ruler, that one herdsman ‑ how dense! Confucius and you are both dreaming! And when I say you are dreaming, I am dreaming, too. Words like these will be labeled the Supreme Swindle. Yet, after ten thousand generations, a great sage may appear who will know their meaning, and it will still be as though he appeared with astonishing speed

So...that entire post you made came from my mind?

      I see...
You are a creation of my subconcious trying to wake me up!

All of you do not exist, you are merely figments of my wayward imagination!
      w00t.
      wait.
What if I'M the one who's a figment?
What if I'm a creation of one of YOUR minds? What if only one of us is real?

      xD
      What is real anyway?

in that intrepretation I can see a dream as a metaphor of death, and there being a life afterwards. when the dream ends you wake up

That idea is pretty deep! But I can see how it works, what if Life is actually a dream? Or maybe what if we're characters of 1 consciousness? Hmmmm

In the Tibetan dream yoga tradition of Dzogchen - this is essentially how one trains for clarity.
Interesting twist on reality checking - i.e. rather than asking when awake 'is this a dream?' you affirm whilst awake that 'this is a dream'. With an awareness that all is a dream - lucid dreams arise spontaneously!

And yes, enlightenment also follows in the same way.

Not being enlightened at the moment - this is simply my academic understanding of the practice!
