      Real world confusion?

Hello, iv'e been having these confusions sometimes when im awake im starting to actually believe im dreaming. But i understand that im awake after some reality checks or so.

      But still, it's frightening sometimes.
For example I wanna attack my friends or destroy my computer or some object in my surrounding when im getting confused just to see if im dreaming or awake.

Anyone else having these "distortions" in your waking life?

Yes, pretty often. It is always important to reality check before doing something crazy LOL

You mean wide awake, out of bed for hours, you can't tell reality from dream?

I have a few seconds of confusion right after waking sometimes. I'll wonder if I'm awake or dreaming.

I don't get confused randomly while awake during the day though.

Maybe you're overtired. I hear that can play tricks on the mind.

Sometimes if something really exciting to me happens and then I dream about it, my memories get mingled and I can't remember what happened IRL or in the dream. Only realistic things of course though!

I remember in high school, when my first boyfriend told me he loved me I was so excited I dreamed about it that night, but then couldn't remember if it really happened or not lol.

I do think it is a bit weird to randomly be confused during the day though.

I think I know what you mean. Every once in a while I feel kind of dissociated from where I'm at. I'm almost SURE it's a dream and get frustrated when it's not.

I attribute it to the fact that I could never get an LD for about a year (and still haven't had a clear one) and became extremely paranoid about if I was dreaming; I was trying extra hard to make sure I was reality checking correctly and doing like 50 a day.

I'm hoping when I get a vivid LD I will be able to recognize the dreamstate a bit more accurately and that will quit happening.

      hmmmm

lucidity is a state of consciousness that happens while we dream. the consciousness part is the key, because lucidity is at its core - being aware you are in a dream.

if you aren't aware whether or not you are in a dream, then this lack of awareness is also why you struggle with lucid dreaming. Raising your awareness increases your chance of being aware in a dream, and will solve the problem of not being aware that you aren't in a dream

edit: for most people normal RCs work. but if your dreams are life like vivid, RCs can fail. The biggest difference between a life like dream and real life is the body. How heavy do you feel? Can you feel the eyelashes on your face? Are you aware of the physical sensations of wearing clothes? ect

No it's not that im tired, it's just like if I see a certain person at a certain place that i wouldn't expect to see I might get this weird feeling that im dreaming and then for a while im not sure whether im awake or dreaming.

It's not such a big problem it's just interesting and i wonder if there are more having the same feelings in waking state

Ah, that's good. I was worried it was a huge problem.
So are you talking about those deja-vu type feelings? I do get those once in a while and when I do I reality check.

Strangely, this has never happened to me before. But I remember something strange from a very lifelike dream I had years ago. I had a Lion King poster on my room as a child. I was staring at the poster (don't think it was a lucid) and the different characters from the film started making scary facial expressions. Then I woke up in a strange way. I was staring at the poster. Reminds me of sleepwalking, except I wasn't actually standing or wandering, at least i think not.

There are others here that mix up waking with dreams. Cant remember any of the posts of hand though.

If those feelings are getting worse or more frequent or troublesome, I think it'd be best to see a doctor. Could be some physical reason, lack of or too much of something in the body that is creating the distortions you feel.

Well, there have been a lot of times when I was absolutely shocked that I was dreaming, and a few times when I did an RC and was surprised that I wasn't dreaming... Then there have also been times when I wake up delirious, usually if I have a cold. The strangest time was when I woke up in the middle of the night and my cat was curled up next to me, where he'd been when I'd fallen asleep. For some reason I wasn't thinking in words, I was thinking in knocks. That's the only way I can describe it, like knocking on wood or some other solid surface. Like I was thinking perfectly well, only concepts were expressed in knocks instead of words. It was really weird. Even stranger, I thought that my cat could not only hear my thoughts, but understand them. Maybe because he looked at me when I "thought at him". Then I went back to sleep and when I woke up in the morning I was pretty confused about the whole thing
